1800pt Necron tournament list (no flyer spam)

Overlord
Weave, warscythe, mss, res orb
2 lords
Both with warscythe and mss.
3 crypteks
All with the haywire staff
1 cryptek
Cronometron
Nightscythe
This squad will get dropped off by the nightscythe and destroy the most dangerous tank. It is then the overlords job with the help of the chronometron to absorb enemy return fire with LOS going on the haywire teks since they have already done their job. After that they are to assault MCs and dangerous combat units i dont like. Res orb in a normal squad is not worth its points but should make its points back with these guys.

Despairtek
Cloak of darkness
15 warriors
This squad will sit back and shoot against assault armies jumping away at the last moment or will jump up and get in shooty armies faces.
Perfect objective capturers

15 warriors
Nightscythe
Dropped off on a defensible objective in no mans land.

10 warriors

10 warriors
More cheap objective capturers who can do decent damage when needed.

5 scarab bases

5 scarab bases

5 scarab bases
Used for distraction purposes and charge blocking. Enemy with tanks MUST shoot them.

Annihilation barge

Annihilation barge

Annihilation barge
Most undercosted unit in the codex apart from the nightscythe.

So im a new necron player (usually play BA) and am totally fed up seeing the same scythe spam, despairtek-3 deathmark squad tactic, and wraith spam. Also never see a royal court kept together. I am surprised that a scoring cloak of darkness unit is rarely seen though. Yes i can make a much better list by spamming scythes. But i actually enjoy playing 40k without it being a foregone conclusion.

I can see t8 wraithlords/knights causing me trouble. What else have i massivly overlooked please? Help appreciated :-) (although please dont just replace it with a scythe/wraith spam)

Royal Court deathstars are an excellent unit and fun to play. I find they work best when they have a specific role (either a shooty royal court or an assaulty one).

Your setup is unusual as you have created an anti vehicle RC. However, in your list, with 15 scarabs, I don't think that AV is really a problem.

Because of that, I'm concerned that you won't really benefit from having the deathstar running around, as it lacks shooting (other than vs vehicles) as well as being not very assaulty.

So, I would suggest you rethink the loadout of your deathstar. Either more assault, or more shooting (with the staff of light)

With all your warriors, the night scythe for precision delivery seems a waste - 15 warriors will be swept just as easily as 5. I suggest you replace it with a ghost ark instead.

Putting a veiltek with 15 warriors is a brave move - that is a large footprint. Maybe swap to 10 immortals instead.

m2c

Cheers for the advice. I see what you mean about the ds footprint - 10 immortals does sound better and frees up 25pts.

The reason i created an anti vehicle/assaulty rc is because i play eldar a lot and need to take down serpent spams - serpents which insta gib all my scarabs. Its not really an anti tank unit as such as their role is to take out one tank when deployed then the 25pt crypteks are expendable LOS dummies in an assault unit (who will have taken down more than the 75pts they cost - meat shields who actually have a decent job to do first :-)).

So if i drop the 15 warrior unit down to a 5 like you say and swap the despairtek unit for 10 immortals im left with 155pts. Two more lords specd out the same in the royal court for more assault? Leaving me with 35pts. Drop 2 scarab bases, buy the 3+ invun for the overlord, add lightening field on a cryptek and nightmare shroud on the despairtek for enemy annoyance? What do you think?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Just re-read the bit bit about the ghost ark. If i drop 1 more scarab base i can change the scythe to an ark.

If you need quick AT, instead of 1 court, try reallocating the points to have 2.

So, you'll need 2 overlords (preferably with SW,MSS,WS) to make this work.

For each court, take veiltek (with shroud if you have the points) and 2 stormteks.

Now you have 2 AT units that will kill just about any vehicle in 1 turn. If you put the overlords in there, you can use the overlords to tank shots. Next turn, detach the overlords and go and kill a vehicle with the overlord, plus a different one with whatever stormteks are left.

So, you should be able to kill 6 vehicles in 2 turns (if you go second and survive the shooting). Even if your RC squads get killed, you'll have scarabs coming in.

I like that idea! I had been thinking about running 2 royal courts but splitting them up into 2 stormteks in 2 squads in nightscythes and seperate veilteks in 2 squads but keeping them together is a much better idea, especially with a chronometron making sure the ds is as acurate as possible!!! Should i soup up the overlords and put in extra lords for 2nd turn assaults or will that get too pricy do you think?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
God listen to me about the assault. You can tell im a BA player through and through!

I think assaults might be a bit pricey. If you want to feed your assault hunger, put phase shifters on the overlords as well as weave. That makes them harder to kill again.
