Normal Russes blow. You're ALWAYS better off with Manticores, especially since Aegishammer is a relatively popular way to play. They also do fairly well against Serpent Spam since they're only AP4, they usually only strip hull points anyway. With the Serpent Shield it doesn't really matter. They also rarely miss Serpents since they're so damn big, and if you do, you'll probably hit another. They also completely obliterate War Walkers.

You probably want a PIS. Throw PCSs and Infantry Squads into Vendettas if you need the mobility (which you do), and if you're facing Invisibility Hounds, or something like that, throw a few IS out front to take that T2 charge.

I usually run the Infantry Squads naked. They're there to sit on objectives or die as a meat shield.

Some Russes can work OK, just not vanilla Russes. At 1,500 I always run 2 Manticores. You might be able to get by with 1 and a Russ. Check out Punishers and Executioners, both with bolter sponsons. They're pretty good. I say this for two reasons:
1. It gives the whole squad melta bombs... making them tank hunters in their own right
2. It gives one of them a demo charge which comes in quite handy when trying to kill TEQ models... especially those with multiple wounds. The only problem with the demo charge is that it does have a chance to scatter back on your own squad...
