Cut 1/4" MDF board into 1'x1' squares
Glue down the terrain (ruins, tank hulls, rocks, etc)
Place PVA glue over the empty areas
use sand and small rocks on top of the PVA glue
Paint everything
use a clead dull coat over everything I painted to protect it from wear and tear

Is this a good way to get it done? My biggest concern is protecting the terrain as the ones we use at my FLGS are seeing a bit of wear and tear and I don't know how long they've been used. Also, I don't know the person who made them but I don't think a clear coat was used on them. I'm afraid that the clear coat might be too thick or distort the paint job.
