Necron Tactics Help

I'm going to be running this list (http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/549635.page) in a tournament this month and i need some help formulating a base tactic that i can make adaptations to. My main plan is to run the two detachments of Wraiths with the Destroyer Lords in a deep striking force. The Ghost Arks, Spyders, and Scarabs will start out on the field and advance quickly to the enemy line. The Wraiths will deepstrike and attack units based on priority. I'm thinking the priority list should be in this order, HQ, Highest tactical threat, Scoring units, then Targets of opportunity. While in transit the Spyders will increase the numbers of Scarabs and Move onto their anti-armor role. The NS will move and attack tightly clustered units to make use of the tesla destructor and in the final rounds drop the immortals to capture and hold an objective. The Annihilation Barges will serve to protect the Ghost Arks and eliminate major threats to them. Their secondary role is to protect the Warriors while they claim objectives.

Necron Tactics Help

Deep striking Wraiths is just begging to have some s8 blasts thrown at them. I prefer deploying them centrally in cover if going first, on a flank if second. BLOS if you can get it. I've also started them on different levels, with the Dlord on the bottom out of terrain, because wraithflight is pretty awesome. I tend to go for the big griblys first, then scoring units. Just keep your vehicles out of charge range, they crumple pretty well.

Necron Tactics Help

I haven't got my codex, but I don't think that Destroyer Lords can deep strike.

In any event, the wraiths are fast enough that you don't need to deep strike to get them where you want. Start them on the board, cos then you can minimise the risk that they don't come in when you need them.

Re target priorities - I suggest the order should be "First Blood", Highest tactical threat, warlord, troops.

For your list, Str8+ are priority targets cos they can insta-kill your wraiths and have the best chance of cracking your vehicles.

So, I suggest that your base tactic should be to advance your Vehicles as the Anvil and use the wraiths and scarabs etc to "hammer".

Re:Necron Tactics Help

Yeah, don't deepstrike your wraiths. The 'initial deepstrike-pile/begging-for-a-pie-plate' effect is migitated somewhat in that you can choose to 'run' them during your shooting phase, but it's still not their best tactical use. They should be on the board from turn one causing hard decisions for your foes, not waiting in reserves spinning their gears.

Think of them as scary sponges. They keep the fire off of your other units so the other guys can shoot what they need to shoot. Plop them down on the board as area denial to herd your opponents to one side of the board or another, and then rush them forward using their speed and ability to ignore difficult terrain to insure they get there. Any attacks that get directed at a 3+ invulnerable save wraith are a bonus for you at that point, since they 'aren't' being sent into something without such a good save.

Yup, only the lord needs to make dangerous terrain checks that would ordinarily be common to that tactic. Also, given you can (and should) run him with sempieternal weave anyway, it's not a big deal usually.
