Magnet Newbie

Hi Dakka,

Been in 40k for a little while and am now turning to magnets. In particular, I'm trying to magnetise a Ghost Ark/Doomsday Ark (I don't like all the people inside anyway, so I'm thinking that this should be fairly simple). I'm also getting into space wolves so looking at swapping a Rhino chassis into predator/razorback/rhino.

I'm in Europe and have found this,

http://www.supermagnete.de/eng/magnets.php?group=discs_small

but... I have no idea what size or what type of magnet I'm looking for.

I think I need a bucket load of 2mm wide by 1mm high s-02-01-n (from the url) for the Rhinos, then for the GA, a few of the S-08-01N, which are 8mm wide, 1 mm high and hold 410g.

Help please? I've started checking out some of the threads here on Dakka, but not sure whether these magnets are the same strength.

If anyone has a good how to - that would be great!

Cheers

Mark

you want to get magnets of at least N42 strength.

N52 is even stronger, but for some applications that might be overkill.

there are a lot of magnitizing tutorials on youtube, so do some checking around there regarding sizes.

Usually I got with a smaller magnet (2mm is fine) for smaller pieces, and bigger (8mm) for larger parts (like monstrous creature arms).

Make sure you have drill bits for the sizes of magnets you plan on using...it makes life a lot easier.

one note: always check polarity! then check it again!

best of luck!
