I had printed shapeways models in their best resolution, which is good, but also translucent and I have not had any luck taking photographs. Has anyone done/tried before?

The next best with printed material like Shapeways produces is a light grey or brown stain. A lot of their customers actually use tea to stain them, though I have found alcohol inks provide better control and I dont need to worry about acid from the ink messing with paints, putties or mold materials.

Finally colored light. White spectrum light on clear frusted materials is horrible to try to photograph. Shifting to a red or yellow spectrum bulb provides better detail in photos. You can then use color correction tools in software like Photoshop to bring the color back in line with what is real.
