Cleaning airbrush white spirit

Hi people still new to air brushing. I've been using white spirit to clean my airbrush some one told me that its not good to use it. Yesterday I was cleaning my neo iwata and when I went to put the tiny end nib ( sorry dont know what its called) the end just broke off under no presure at all . Could it be any thing to do with the cleaner or just faulty product as I was very carful when tightening and un screwing this part.

Thanks

The NEO's are made for Iwata, so they arent quite the same quality. Theres a few stories like yours of odd bitz breaking but I have no idea if the warranty covers you or not.

If the threading is intact, getting a new spray tip and replacing the old one should get you going again- if theres no bits of the old one left in the threads at least(in case the warranty option fails).

Are you using enamel or oil paints? Thats really the only reason to use white spirits to clean it. It is possible that the white spirits damage the rubber seals in your NEO, (and there is supposed to be one in the tip I believe) but white spirit should not do any damage to the metal. Even if you soaked it in the stuff- it shouldn't harm the metal in anyway.

For future referenace though, there are dozens of good cleaners out there, many people in the airbrushing community have used non-ammonia window cleaner for many years. And there are air brush cleaners sold with the paints in most hobby shops and art supply stores- they do tend to be a tad pricey but work better than the basic household cleaners do.

As far as I know mineral spirits won't clean acrylics. I use mineral spirits with oil washes specifically because the mineral spirits won't damage the acrylic layer beneath. And they would not cause damage to your airbrush making a piece snap off. That sounds like a user error or faulty airbrush.
