Kitbashed Achilles - still a WIP

Hello everyone,

This is my first real post in P&M because I'm not normally a showoff (though I have some conversions I'm proud of) but I wanted a yay or nay on this model:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qiPiuTPD1X0

It's still a WIP, but you can see the basic outline. It was originally a hulked Land Raider with no weapons which I acquired from a friend for four dollars. Then I used scrounged parts for everything else, including Baneblade sponson pieces for the MM sponsons, and some (obviously) Predator sensor targeter thingies. The multimeltas themselves are sponson multimeltas from Leman Russ Battletank kits.

The thunderfire cannon (the part with which I am the least happy, and I am considering several ways to fix it) is, unsurprisingly, the remains of a failed project involving the old thunderfire kit. The frontal armor upgrades (to emphasize that it has no assault ramp and to match the considerably bulked-up Forge World Achilles) uses parts from the Baneblade turret bustle and the Stormlord's VMB. The rest of the model is rather unchanged.

To finish, I plan to:
- Solve some of the rougher edges with filing, trimming, and green-stuffing if necessary.
- Fill in holes, and cover larger gaps (such as the area underneath the sponsons) with plasticard (which I have already purchased).
- Possibly remove the Thunderfire Cannon from it's field-gun-style mounting and attach it directly to the turret-ring assembly, lowering its height significantly and reducing traverse to nil.

It's a beautiful conversion of one of my favorite tanks; and I think you've generally done an amazing job. That being said, one of the ideas you are considering:

Unit1126PLL wrote:
Possibly remove the Thunderfire Cannon from it's field-gun-style mounting and attach it directly to the turret-ring assembly, lowering its height significantly and reducing traverse to nil.

I would not consider optional, aesthetics aside - the way it's set up now is modelling for advantage, even if that was not your intent.

Seriously great conversion and I hope to see more here when you've got more to show.

I originally tried, and I'll be damned if I could get the damn thing off without breaking it or a finger.

I think you might want to try cutting into that armored section directly below it with a dremel tool and a cutoff wheel, though I totally understand your hesitation to further alter a pretty solid model.

You know, a lot of how well it's received is dependent upon the group you are playing with, and if they're already allowing Forge World they may be further amenable to allowing the height offset.
