Being UM Successors, they're most likely very Codex-adherent, so renaming UM ICs should be no problem. It's your army, after all.

They also lost a huge part of the Chapter to Chaos during the Abyssal Crusade, and are on the mend with their Loyalist remnants. You could probably get away with the Sternguard, though with their rebuilding process, I'm not so sure on the Scouts. They may have rushed those who were Scouts into Battle Brother status, or not. I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about what would or wouldn't be typical or fluffy for them. There wouldn't be much point of having a Space Marine Chapter that doesn't actually Space Marine. Even the Imperial Fists roam around the galaxy looking for fights, and they are based on Terra.

After all, a Chapter serf can pull the trigger on a giant space laser. Either a retcon, the author not paying attention and being a bit inconsistent, or they got that traitor status removed after the Inquisition determined that the remnants were still loyal. Take your pick, I suppose.

In the author's defense, apparently the Doom Legion in earlier editions still existed as a loyalist legion after the Abyssal Crusade already happened (it was 5th Edition Codex Space Marines that mentioned them as loyal as late as the 13th Black Crusade, I think?) so it was technically the Abyssal Crusade's expanded fluff that screwed up in the first place. Usually though, once you have been declared Traitoris there isn't a way back. That's why it's curious.
