Trouble with wraith heavy armies (and being bad at the game in general)

Recently I've been playing against some wraith heavy eldar armies without success.

One player brings a wraithknight, two wraithlords, a unit of wraithguard and several wave serpents.

The list I played against Sunday had a Iyanden list bringing a wraithknight warlord, two wraithlords, a forgeworld wraithseer, two ten man units of wraithguard and a bunch of jet bikes.

Both lists are extremely durable, and I haven't been able to dent them using drop pod space wolves, Chaos space marines with IG allies, or regular space marines. That 3+ armor save is mostly useless against their shooting, and I struggle to take down serpents with their shield or that many T8 and T6 wounds especially when in the case of the second list some have a 4+FNP.

I'll admit that my space Marine black Templar list wasn't optimized at all. I took a couple of landraiders, some terminators and some small crusader squads in rhinos with a plasmagun and missile Launcher each. I just wanted to use some stuff I haven't in the past.

I definitely need some tactical help. I feel that my space wolf list was very solid, and my chaos list was pretty good as well. But I still keep getting massacred.

I think I screw up at deployment and it just goes badly from there. Apparently I don't understand how to deploy and when different deployments are appropriate. So right off the bat I'm starting at a disadvantage. And this applies to the game as a whole, not just eldar.

And once the game starts I don't really have a good plan of attack and end up just reacting... poorly I might add.

So what tactics have y'all found successful vs wraith heavy eldar specifically and eldar in general. Any tips on list building to bring tools to deal with them as well as ways to apply those tools? What factors determine how I deploy?

Trouble with wraith heavy armies (and being bad at the game in general)

As an Iyanden Eldar player, I have a relatively easy time fighting space marines. This is due to our high toughness, which most players don't plan on facing en mass, and our wide scale availability of ap2.

I've had the roughest time facing people who can put out a high volume of mid strength fire. Force the enemies serpents to take many saves, or take things that ignore cover and they will fail. Take lots of long range blasts for mopping up those poor wraithguard on foot. Take long fangs with lots of missiles and drop those big baddies fast. Make him come to you, shoot him the entire way and then charge him with something with hammers or equivalent. Build a list maximizing: ignores cover/high strength/and ap 1-3 and you'll do just fine.

Trouble with wraith heavy armies (and being bad at the game in general)

High strength AP 1-3 I can do fairly easily. Other than flamers space wolves don't have many options for ignore cover.
Space Marines have thunderfire cannons, flamers, a d I believe sternguard ammo?
Chaos has that easier with Heldrakes and noise Marine blast masters.
Any other options I'm missing?

And what about tips for placing objectives and deployment? For example it was pitched battle, big guns never tire with 3 objectives. I got two and placed them near my board edge slightly off center from the middle of my zone. I ended up going second. He deployed all in the middle of the board all the way forward. I deployed my land Raiders toward the left flank to try and take out his wraithguard, my two predators sat on the objectives and I had two rhinos near each of them. Obviously that didn't work.

So if someone deploys all their wraith forces in the middle of the board with jet bikes in reserve how should I deploy to counter? If I deploy first is it better to clump my forces or spread out? I M just having trouble figuring out how to deploy depending on what my opponent brings and how they deploy. Any tips or tacticas on different ways to deploy and what they are good for?

Re:Trouble with wraith heavy armies (and being bad at the game in general)

I'm a Mechdar player who regularly plays space wolves. Longfang squads with missiles are your biggest advantage. Also, as Iyandenseer pointed out, make them walk to you. Wraiths are slow (not counting the knight) and most times have single shot weapons. Spread your objectives out your objectives, make him commit to only one.

Also, generally don't get into CC with him. Wraiths can sweep, and the Lords are immune to base marines. My Lord squashed an entire Space Wolf command squad with a rune priest and a wolf priest in it last game. Templars, I just don't know what you have in your codex to offer more than "Low AP, High Str shots". Quad guns are nice for tackling big bads. At 4 hits (Twinlinked) of str 7, you got a decent chance of glancing down wave serpents. They double as AA as well, and give you cover against armor melting wraith guns.

Re:Trouble with wraith heavy armies (and being bad at the game in general)

Not much I can add here, alot of good advice.

A land Raider is more of a burden than a blessing against the current Eldar. As said above our easy access to AP1-2 and high str. most of them have the lance special rule, make armor almost useless. I suggest using those points for what others have suggested more Longfangs. The Longfangs could also benefit from a few extra marines in the squad to suck up wounds. Missle launchers, lascannons, and autocannons are all good choices each for a different battlefield roles, against the lists your fighting.

prehaps static TAC squads with Heavy weapons would help out as well.

Good Luck.
