First ever tournament 1500 point Ork List

So, I decided to enter a little tournament on Sunday. I know this list probably isn't amazing, but I can only use the models I have, so I'm making due with what I've got. I do have a trukk and about 9 killa kanz. That's my only swap out option. My tactics are to harass and shoot at heavy tanks etc. with the unit of 5 deffkoptas, and the Big Mek. I'll have three large hordes of boyz move up the table. The Warboss will be with the meganobz in the battlewagon to try and unload on the enemy as fast as possible. I'm debating on where to put the Big Mek with the shokk attack gun, though. I was thinking in the battlewagon, but then he couldn't shoot if it moved, right? Any critiques, tips advice etc. is more than welcome. I usually play for fun, and I've won quite a few games; I'm curious to see how this does in a tourney.

1x Warboss - mega armor (pk, twin-link shoota), b-pole, cybork body,
attack squig 125 points

1x Big Mek (w/ shokk attack gun, ‘eavy armor, cybork body, ammo runt) 113 points

29x Slugga Boys
1x Nob - pk, b-pole, ‘eavy armor 225 points

29x Slugga Boys
1x Nob - pk, b-pole, ‘eavy armor 225 points

23 Shoota Boyz (21 shoota boyz, 2 big shoota boyz)
1x Nob - shoota, b-pole, ‘eavy armor 150 points

6x Meganobz- mega armor(pk, twin-link shoota) stikkbombs
240 points

5x Deffkoptas - (twin linked rokkit launcha, bigbomm) 300 points

1x Battlewagon (grot rigger 1x, big shoota) 100 points

TOTAL = 1,502 points *there's a 5 point above or below difference allowed*

The battlewagon will be an easy target since he is the only one on the field, and without a deffrolla(an essential upgrade) it will have problems going around and getting stuck on terrains, not to mention rolling over foolish tanks that stand in his way.

Also I'd probably drop the big bombs on the deffkoptas and break them into smaller squads. They break very easy and are better used as a flanker unit that deals with armor or poking at squads. Yes this adds more kill points to the list but their overall effectiveness will skyrocket

Shootas>Sluggas in all cases except when using trukks, so I'd recommend you switch up the weapon choice on dem boyz, and maybe drop the 'eavy armor on the nobs, since he is basically a boy with 2 wounds and a bosspole, no point in him wearing the armor when he is not wielding a power claw or a big choppa

The SAG on the Big Mek is a bit too random, so he is probably better off getting a KFF to provide cover for the advancing tide or even the battlewagon.

For the Meganobz it would be nice to fit in a couple of kombiskorchas, and maybe drop 1-2 of them so you can afford the other changes, since they do just fine in a bit smaller squads

Other than that, I'd look into getting more battlewagons (since you already went down that route and shootaboyz are amazing when riding around in a Shootawagon) and some Lootas/BigGunz for firesupport

Hope my thoughts help you
Keep on WAAAGHing

The battlewagon will be an easy target since he is the only one on the field, and without a deffrolla(an essential upgrade) it will have problems going around and getting stuck on terrains, not to mention rolling over foolish tanks that stand in his way.
- Yeah, that is a concern of mine. It is front armor 14, and I usually only need one turn to get it up far enough so the guys inside can assault.

Also I'd probably drop the big bombs on the deffkoptas and break them into smaller squads. They break very easy and are better used as a flanker unit that deals with armor or poking at squads. Yes this adds more kill points to the list but their overall effectiveness will skyrocket --

- The bigboms always help me against other horde armies. I used to run the deffkoptas in 2 units of three, but if one goes down, and they fail their morale--they always do--then that's it. I do like to flank with them, though. Would you say two units of 3 or 3 units of 2?

Shootas>Sluggas in all cases except when using trukks, so I'd recommend you switch up the weapon choice on dem boyz, and maybe drop the 'eavy armor on the nobs, since he is basically a boy with 2 wounds and a bosspole, no point in him wearing the armor when he is not wielding a power claw or a big choppa

- Again, I agree, I was just thinking the slugga boyz get more attacks on the charge. Might be worth it once get get to assault. Also, the nobz with bosspoles do have power klaws, so I want to keep the 'eavy armor.

The SAG on the Big Mek is a bit too random, so he is probably better off getting a KFF to provide cover for the advancing tide or even the battlewagon.
- I was debating between the two, but my play style is a bit on the random side! haha

For the Meganobz it would be nice to fit in a couple of kombiskorchas, and maybe drop 1-2 of them so you can afford the other changes, since they do just fine in a bit smaller squads

- I like this!

Thanks for the tips, and I will reconsider my list. I knew it wasn't the best or anything. I haven't been playing very long, but I'd like to see how I do in a tournament. Thanks again.
Re:First ever tournament 1500 point Ork List

hmmm, the second list is a bit more solid.

The battlewagon (and trukks for that matter) don't need boarding plank, that's why they are open top, so your boyz inside can jump out and assault any vehicles that you don't like. I used to run planks, but almost never ended up using them because i needed to wreck stuff, not just take a hull point or two. Take those points and invest them in a big choppa for the trukk nob so he has bit more of a punch against anything he comes up against, or maybe some armour plates so if your opponent rolls the "crew stunned" result on a penetrating hit it can still keep going and isn't a sitting duck.

I usually go with a vanilla big mek with KFF... It's completely up to you on that, but i would recommend a burna for him if you do upgrade him as they ignore cover saves and do great against any sort of squads, not to mention wall of fire (Burn baby! BURN! ) on overwatch can be a pain in the rear for anyone trying to deny you a charge.

Meganobz should go with the kombi skorchas as their power klaws are better for cracking tanks then rokkits, and as stated above ^^ flamethrowers can be an asset as well for charging cover, or dealing with Tau's pesky cover saves.

'eavy armour for the nobs with PKs sounds cool, but you should have them protected anyways by keeping them in the middle~ish of your squad, and a 4+ save isn't going to help you against any decent blast weapons, or against heavy flamers, so unless you need to sink a few points somewhere I would rely on Look out sir! rolls to defend them.

For the trukk, take off reinforced ram and put on red paint job. The reason for that is: trukks are meant to die! The whole point of them is to get up as far and fast as possible before being wrecked, which is why they only deal str 3 hits on your boyz when exploding. That extra inch may not seem like that big a deal, but that inch helped me win my last game (was able to assault and not be completely murdered by 2 Leman Russ Tanks and deny him an objective in the end).

Delevarius

Also I'd probably drop the big bombs on the deffkoptas and break them into smaller squads.

Deffkoptas... I don't like them all that much, but they do have their uses. Probably best to put them in 3 squads of 2. Why? Because as you mentioned, they will have to roll for moral anyways, this just makes it easier to get at least 1 squad to go where you want them to, and since the fast attack slot isn't being used then you might as well. I agree with Delevarius, bigbomms are a bit too expensive for... well ALL ork lists. If you're worried about horde lists then there are better alternatives, which I won't get into right now to stay more on topic.

I also agree with him that you army will be spread out far too thin, with the threats being obvious and few in number. Being run down by 3 battlewagons and 3 trukks is terrifying! But one of each? Blow up the trukk, crack the wagon, then deal with the mobs. The only ace up your sleeve is the deffkoptas and the KFF cover save, even then only one or two units will benefit from the 5+ save.

That's all the advice I think I can give you right now. As you have already said, it's not going to be perfect the first time... or anytime soon, just keep playing and it will get there.

Cheers

Thanks for all the tips! I'm definitely going with skorchas for the meganobz. I had a few practice games this week, and yes, the trukk got blown to bits. I'll drop the reinforced ram and give it a red paint job. I do like deffkoptas, however. Twin linked rokkits have always worked out incredibly well for me. I'm usually able to take out a couple of side armor exposed vehicles before they get taken out. Plus, they usually distract my opponent a bit so I can run the boyz up the board. I will invest in more battlewagons and trukks. Like I said, this is what I've got atm. The tourney is in Sunday. I'll post how it went.
