I just like ever one opinions on army that are good for new players. so far i have found out that dwarfs and skavens are not good army to use. i just ant a overall army that good along with ever thing in codex being useful. i would like a army based around 3 To 4 units of spear men 30man units and 3blocks of of 20 archers backed up buy a fewhard hinting untils i really dont like any human race

Well, when you say "new player", it can mean many things.

Personally, I'd say go with Ogre Kingdoms. The battalion is still the best deal (not 100% sure on this but I heard not too long ago this to be the case).

1. Low model count. You won't spend an eternity assembling and painting them.

2. Pretty dang simple faction. Bulls (erm, I guess ogres now) take out light and medium infantry, Ironguts take out bigger nasty things. Leadbelchers offer ranged support, and aren't too bad at bashing things themselves.

3. Large models, so a bit easier to paint than smaller guys with small details.

Yeah Ogres are straightforward and pretty strong .

The Battalion and A Slaughtermaster will give you approximately 1000 pts and a good starting point as it includes 6 Ironguts and 6 Bulls. Throw in a Ironblaster some mournfangs and more core and you have an awesome army.

Lizardmen are also straightforward as are Chaos Warriors Again both battalions give you a good starting point. I believe chaos comes in at 750 pts (give or take.) The Lizards at 800 both if given a single lord.

Also everything in every codex is usable its usually that there are a handful of extremely underpowered or over priced options.

For your Noted ideas it sound like you actually want Lizards Saurus spear regiments are tough and fight well. (BUT DON'T let initiative tests happen.) Skinks are one of the better missile troops in the game.

Ogres, WoC or Empire.

Ogres have a low model count and a fairly straightforward playstyle. WoC are similar, but with a slightly higher count and even more straightforward playstyle. Empire are an army that can operate equally well in all phases of the game, so they're great for learning the game.

But to be honest, I'd always go with the army you like the look of most.

Every spell has a number you must equal or better on a dice roll adding the wizard level and you choose how many dice you want to use.
Example,
If the casting cost of a spell is 12 and your wizard is lvl 4..
you need to roll an 8 or better.
You choose how many dice you want to roll.
if you choose to roll 3 dice and get 2,2,3.
I disagree somewhat.

Every 8th army in WHFB has many ways to build them competitively. Even in tournaments. However, you will almost always see at least one lvl 4 Wizard and a BSB and a dispel scroll. That is about all the consistency you'll find in tournament games regardless of army.

But even an army like O&G, you're going to vary I would say 50% from one tournament list to another. And that's a lot of models.

zilka86, I'd wait for the new Dark Elves.

If Dark Elves weren't right around the corner, I'd recommend them anyway.

They are an elite army. They are apparently about to get new plastics.

They can compete in every phase of the game if you want them too. They currently have one of the best magic phases, their crossbowmen and shades are some of the best BS-based shooters, and Black Guard and Hydras are very good in combat.

I doubt GW will change them too much. Probably just nerf/eliminate some of their more powerful magic items, and adjust the points costs of a few units.

Plus, they have ninjas, babes, pirates, and dinosaurs. No other army can boast that.

You can still 'play whatever you want' with GW games, but it requires co-operation, and most importantly, communication with your opponents as to what kind of game you want to be playing. GW games need the right mindset to get the most out of them - low key, semi serious (ie 'beer and pretzels'), co-operative games, with a 'gentlemanly' attitude to rules issues and the actual playing of the game.

Many people would say that Warmachine/Hordes has degenerated into a few cookie cutter builds and combos. I'll just leave it and say I disagree.

Anyways..

As a guy who I am being to lazy to quote wisely said above (or words to these effect) "play the armor you like the look of" or another way of putting it "play with what you think looks and sound damn cool". This gives me quite a problem personally because even my least favourite armies are damned cool IMO.

Before deciding on what army you need to specify criteria.

Is money no object or are you on a tight budget?

Are you person that loves painting and will get even the largest army stuck together and painted or is it a chore that has to be done to get a pretty army on to the table to play?

O&G, VC and Skaven all require a ton of models.

O&G have a vibrant second hand market, but filling out all the models for the possible builds is an epic achievement.
Skaven require a metric ton of models, mostly brown.
VC prepare yourself for constructing and painting 200 zombies.

Yes there are relatively low model count armies you can make of the above.

OK.. being that I've just realised how little time I have gonna have to cut it short....

Ogre Kingdoms are the easiest army to get assembled, painted and on the table. 2000 points of Ogres is about 30 models ish.

Warriors of Chaos are close, slightly more pricey, slightly more hastle to get painted up nicely.

Quick shout out for Brets. They are surprisingly cheap to get on the field, 3 battalions at 25% off from an internet retailer, a Trebuchet and a couple of characters and you're good for around 2-2.5k. They haven't had a book in ages however.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
But....

zilka86 wrote:
i would like a army based around 3 To 4 units of spear men 30man units and 3blocks of of 20 archers backed up buy a fewhard hinting untils i really dont like any human race

Sounds like you would probably like the style of High Elves... and most likely their Dark Elf Cousins when the new book hits.
