The Emperor had the Heretics re-cloned and tried to re-raise the Primarches that turned evil, just to find that they turn evil yet again?

I am asking this just because I like the backstory of the Thousand Sons, but not enough to base an army to them.

Any thoughts?

It would be a bit hard for the emperor to do that when he is trapped in a life support machine...

Besides even if he could it would be a huge undertaking. The making of the 20 original primarchs took centuries if not millennia of slow research and science.

If your interested in the thousand sons, there were some who survived after the events at prospero (see Blood Ravens).

It wasnt simply a case of 'Now I am a bad guy, because why not?'. There was a lot of build up and situatiions arose that put Horus in the postion which lead him to turn traitor. And the same is true for many of the other Primarchs. For example, Magnus tried to both sway Horus away from betraying the Emperor, and also to warn the Emperor of Horus' betrayal.

Im afraid that no-one has really thought of it because it doesnt make much sense given what we know about the Heresy.

And if you like the Thousand Sons, as Vodo says, the Blood Ravens may or may not be a surviving group of them, who stayed loyal to the emperor.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was originally looking at the Blood Ravens, but I'm not really excited about them either.

I mean, I want to have a Tzeentch-ish style CSM army, but it be adaptable to play as a straight SM army.

Following the original 20, no additional Primarchs were made. The Emperor never had the chance, he was interred in the Golden Throne immediately after the death of Horus... as in, within hours, if not minutes. He never saw the true end of the Heresy.

Re:Has Anyone thought of...

Technically, there was an interesting bit of fluff regarding the so-called Cursed Founding from an Index Astartes article in WD #260...

"The laboratorium we discovered contained a plethora of ancient machines, and my heart leapt to see so much techno-arcana preserved in such an undamaged condition. But it was the centre of the laboratoria that demanded my most immediate attention. Connected by vast bundles of pulsing tubes and cables to the machines were six ceiling height incubation tanks. Three were empty, but the others contained amniotic fluid with an enormous human male floating within them. The physiology of these giants put me in mind of Space Marines, but these brutes were far larger than those members of the Adeptus Astartes whom I have laid eyes upon. Two of these tubes were obviously damaged, the fluid within cloudy and stagnant, but the third still appeared to be functioning after Throne knows how many millennia. Truly the Machine God had smiled on us! We drained the first two tubes and, between six of us, managed to lift the bodies from within."
- Explorator Magos Marco Pteronus, Adeptus Mechanicus Archaeological Expedition dated 998.M41

"[...] In summary it is impossible to say with any certainty how the subjects died. No visible signs of trauma were evident and no viral, bacteriological or toxicobgical contamination was found. My own conclusion is that the subject's growth was boosted artificially and they expired when the machinery of the incubation tube failed. I have performed similar examinations on members of the Adeptus Astartes before this and can say with utter certainty that these subjects are far superior to them in every way."
- Autopsy report, Genetor Quincus

"Project Homo Sapiens Novus continues to meet with further success and I believe that within the next few accelerated evolutionary iterations we may achieve ...... goal of recreating the [fragment destroyed] and imbue them with psychically attuned minds to resist the .................. of Chaos. That we may follow in the footsteps of our Glorious Emperor fills me with pride and that my name may be spoken of in the same breath is an honour I can scarce believe."
- original Base Commander Log Entry #23, as recovered by AdMech Lexmechanics

Sounds interesting, no? It is even more interesting that one of these "beings" escaped as Chaos forces attacked the base, prompting the death of its original crew ...

That the Emperor had much to do with creating the Primarchs is (at least going by GW's own material) merely legend, anyways - the Imperial populace may believe it was him alone, but the sources discussing the creation of the Space Marine legions make it obvious that he just had a staff of very talented scientists. One of them was even mentioned by name, although only once in a very early source where he presented the team's work on the first Astartes to his Emperor (2nd edition iirc).
