Been playing FOW lately...

How cool would a 40K version at that scale be?

Marines could be little tanks..
I.G. could use all the big tanks in a game and they could be in scale..
Bugs could be truely represented in a swarm fashion..
Eldar/Dark Eldar could really use speed to make maneuvers..
Tau could fight the actual withdrawl trap..
Necrons could bring in big crawly insect looking war machines..
Chaos could have big war machines and huge daemons..

Anybody want to throw out some unit stat lines?
I know there are a few of you guys out there that play both, so lets hear from ya

There is/was some movement geared towards 15mm 40k. I agree with those people in that with the scale 40k is moving to, 15mm is much, much better. An Ork foot horde for instance would be both better looking and far less tedious if it was on a mob basis instead of an individual model one.

As for FoW rules, a definite yes from me. I found that game rather dull, but the rules are rock solid

I've actually been toying around with this, mostly to represent the more grounded conflicts in 40k (eg Guard vs Chaos Cults/Traitor Guard)

(Bear in mind these special rules are mostly for humans vs humans, if you read the gaunts ghosts novels you get a sense for the relative strength of a guardsman vs other enemies, I don't think flames could do space marines very well for example)

Imperial Guard Special Rules

We Die Standing- Imperial Guard Platoons may re-roll failed motivation tests to counter attack in assaults (British Bulldog)

Front Rank Fire! Second Rank Fire!- Imperial Guard Lasgun Teams may re-roll missed to hit rolls in defensive fire.

Commissars- Same as the soviet ones

Lumbering Behemoth- Imperial Guard Tank Teams with this special Rule may move and shoot at full RoF, provided they moved 6" or less

More ideas to come, other armies I'd like to see in this

Tau, Chaos Humans (Blood Pact and the like, probably special rules for different versions), maybe Orks, Planetary Defense Forces, Marines would be available as a support choice for Imperial Companies, ditto for chaos companies, Eldar (both kinds) are also a possibility

Definitely Tau, but only maybe Orks?

Da boys got something to say about that! 15mm 40k would be *ideal* for three armies above all others - Orks, IG, and Tyanids.

The only problem with that is most of the flames of war rules are set up based around that most soldiers have similar attributes (physical strength, ability to take wounds etc) the differences l are in training and motivation, in 40k units have vastly different characteristics and this is reflected in stat lines.

I didn't have even one game of FoW without a yawn sadly.

Nothing wrong with that rule IMO, its just an abstraction of the skill of the German armed forces in that war. What I disliked about it was that it didn't always work - and this is coming from a US armoured player who mostly played against Germans

Lanrak wrote:
Hi Dakkamite.
I see where you are coming from with the critique of EA.
However, NET Epic has more detailed rules for each race.(As it was developed from Epic Space Marine.)
Give it a look over, It may be closer to what you want.

Yeah man, theres a fair few Epic players about who say the same thing.
