All-comers 1k Dark Eldar

Hello all,

We might have a small tourney with friends sometime this month and I wanted to make a list that could handle most but is also lots of fun. And fun means drugs, drugs mean the Duke himself. Anyways here's the list:

Duke Sliscus
Wyches x9: Hydra Guantlets, Hekatrix
Raider:Night Shields, Flickerfield, Torment Grenade Launchers, Grisly Trophies

Kabalite Warriors x10: Splinter Cannon
Raider:Night Shields, Flickerfield, Splinter Racks

Reavers: Blaster

Ravager: Night Shields, Flickerfiled

Incubi: Klaivex: Demiklaives, Onslaught
Venom: Splinter Cannon x2, Night Shields

I'm totally not sure about Wyche weapons. They all sound good but I wanted to go for Hydra Gauntlets for maximum pain.

The Incubi Venom will most likely deep strike. Might also deep strike the wyche raider depending on circumstances.

What do you think?

All-comers 1k Dark Eldar

Ok, I think that this list is pretty well rounded, but it suffers from some old conceptions that we might need to talk about.

First: I love wyches. They were my go to back in 3rd and 4th, but in this edition they've been reduced to 3 real functions. They are effective to take out upsettingly bad assault units (Fire Warrios, Guardsmen), they can tarpit small elite squads (not to kill them, mind you, just to tarpit them) or MCs of sorts AND they are good haywire assassins. Outside of that, the days of them going toe to toe with enemy HQ deathstars are behind them. There's a reason that they've been moved from Elites to Troops. I'd take them in a squad of 5 with haywires and assault anything with an AV. They're murder on Drop Pods, Dreadnaughts and LandRaiders alike. Ok, with wyche weapons they need to serve your purpose. If you want them tarpitting, give them shardnets. If you want them slicing and dicing GEQs, you should go with Razorflails. The math actually shows that unless you roll a 5 or 6, the Hydra gauntlets are less effective than Razorflails.

Also, drop the trophies.

They should not be where you deploy the Duke. The Duke should go with your Kabalites. I say should, but his rules say that he must be deployed with them.

Similar to wyches, I love Incubi with a passion, but they are a tremendous points sink. I'd honestly say that you are far better off taking Trueborn with Blasters. AT heaven wrapped in a crunchy candy AI shell. MVP's almost every game.

Happy hunting.

Re:All-comers 1k Dark Eldar

Thanks for the reply.

I usually play with more shooting line list but I wanted to try out the wyches in a semi-competitive environment. I thought of their function as slicing and dicing GEQs.

The trophies are there to burn the points so no harm done.

I've deployed duke with warriors before and even though 3+ wound is great, he won't be seeing any action with them. Plus taking him in the raider means not being able to take the splinter cannon (9 man squad). The expected wound amount of the 10 men squad with splinter cannon is higher than the 9 men squads with Duke's expected wound amount. Plus his main purpose is drugs and deep strike anyways.

About the incubi, I find that they seriously kick ass plus they are great distraction (even though they are costly). What guardsmen shoots at a raider when 5 deadly incubi are running their way?

I agree that blasterborn are great but everyone knows about their strong output so they are bullet magnet. Even though they don't survive long and a ravager is usually enough to handle the AV in this point mark I will reconsider them indeed.

Thanks again for the feedback!
