				<description><![CDATA[ hi all! shall i keep my command squad cheap?? or go ahead and spend money on them??<br /> <br /> i believe that the command squad hits harder than the assault terminators sometimes 4 attcks each on charge makes 20 attcks! and they have feel no pain,,,<br /> <br /> i usually keep them as:<br /> <br /> 3 veterans (one with banner) 1 usually getting a power sword (maybe 1 power fist?)<br /> 1 apothecary<br /> 1 champion<br /> <br /> and i stick to them my captain with his relic blade and artificier armer for tanking purposes 2+ save 4+ invu and feel no pain!]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ Problem with command squad is they're still in power armour so die easily to mass shooting.<br /> <br /> The best use of command squad i've seen is as a mass plasma gun unit on bikes.<br /> <br /> Able to move fast, pepper tough units with mass plasma (in rapid fire range that's a lot of shots) and then either charge into <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(19);'>CC</span> against survivors, or move on to next target.<br /> <br /> <br /> <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(265);'>FNP</span> isn't as great now as it's a 5+ save so most of the time it's not going to help, and on bikes you're T5, so technically should take less shooting pain (with jink save too!)<br /> <br /> Costwise:<br /> <br /> Captain in artificer armour, storm shield, relic blade and bike:<br /> 165<br /> <br /> Command Squad on bikes w/ plasma pistols & Power Swords 285<br /> <br /> Expensive but nothing can stand in its way easily. <br /> ]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ Command squad do not hit harder than assault terminators. First let's consider the rubbish Assault Terminators:<br /> <br /> 4 attacks each = 10 hits = 7.5 Ap3 wounds for 200 points.<br /> <br /> Command squad with say power swords is 175 points:<br /> <br /> 4 attacks each = 10 hits = 5 Ap3 wounds they have no invun and only a 3+ save.<br /> <br /> Corennus is nearly right on the good build for command squads. Though his suggested build is horribly inefficient and not very effective.<br /> <br /> The reason to take command squads is to spam Gravguns. 5 gravguns pumps out 15 grav shots (3 times as many shots as Corennus's suggested build) at an 18" range. As for good Captain builds the best one is probably this:<br /> <br /> Captain: artificier armour, thunder hammer, Shield eternal, bike 210<br /> <br /> The relic blade is not a good weapon and should be avoided and the power sword is the worst of the power weapons, Mauls or Axes are generally your best bet but I wouldn't take either on a Command Squad. They are one of the powerhouse shooting units in the game.<br /> <br /> If not going on bikes give them all plasmaguns in a Razorback or Rhino and have an apothecary. Its not as good as the bike variant but still OK. If you want to do <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(19);'>CC</span> go with Honour guard. Rather than 15 points for a power weapon you pay 5 for a power weapon and artificier armour and get to keep your bolter!!! Honour guard are just a bit good.]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ I agree about the relic blade. and also Shield Eternal is a bit of a gimmick. Wow Eternal Warrior and Adamantium will for FIFTY FIVE POINTS!! So not worth it. Now if it gave you a 2+ <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(162);'>inv</span>.......but no it doesn't.<br /> <br /> <br /> The power swords are a throwback on my part to 5th ed. I haven't run a command squad since then. I do think however that a power axe wouldn't be a good idea cause you're at I1, Power Maul would be good (but not AP3). I would suggest maybe a mix of swords and axes.......<br /> <br /> As for the relic blade, well if I really wanted my captain to be a monster munching anything eater i'd give him the Burning Blade, storm shield, artificer armour, and bike. <br /> T5, 2+ 3+ <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(162);'>inv</span>, S6 and AP2......<br /> <br /> but again expensive]]></description>

I am going to pay the points for the <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(221);'>SS</span> anyways, I have no problem shelling out 35 more for the other abilities. I am also gonna give him Artificier armour. This way when I throw him in a command squad bike squad he is soaking up hopefully alot of wounds. It is expsensive but it is keeping my mobile grav-gun battery alive. A +2/+3 with +5 <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(265);'>FNP</span>, 3 wounds, toughness5, and <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(468);'>EW</span>, yes please.]]></description>

With the Relic blade you've a decent chance of listing a challenge to a Terminator Sergeant! The SE is 50 points and a <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(221);'>SS</span> is 15 so you're paying 35 points for <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(468);'>EW</span> (same as <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(124);'>SW</span> codex) and getting AW for free! Now you don't auto lose to a Dreadknight.<br /> <br /> Burning blade and <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(221);'>SS</span> is the other good combat option.<br /> <br /> Power swords are in general the worst power weapons. You need some AP2 in a unit for Terminators so Axes are good but should not be spammed as you don't want to go last all the time.  The Maul is better than the sword against everything that doesn't have a 3+ armour save. Whilst against units with a 3+ armour the Maul will still often get the kill through weight of wounds particularly on Honour Guard with 5 attacks each on the charge!<br /> <br /> As for Command squads as a combat unit. Why not just take Vanguard Vets they are better at it (ignore disordered charge) and a point a model cheaper and can be fielded in squads of 10 so they actually have the bodies requires to survive until they make combat.<br /> <br /> Command Squads are a shooting unit and should be used as such. They can do some combat but that should be finishing off squads they have just brutalised with 15 Ap2 shots...]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ chalenges in a command squad are not a real problem cause the company champion takes care of them(or the apothecary is you loose the first)...so your relic blade is free to slay 3- 4 enemy units per turn!!  yes you should avoid terminators but with a melee command squad you cant take care of all the enemy troops...3+ save and 5+ <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(265);'>fnp</span> and 20 attacks even if they are all AP5 chainswords! (cheaper than a 6 man sternguad squad with combis!)]]></description>

Also having an expensive Captain that can't deal with 2+ saves is a little short sighted as their are some armies that are literally all 2+ saves. Feeding your champion to a character is OK but short sighted whilst feeding your apothecary is not a great idea. Against another marine army you'll just tie up his character for 2 rounds and then lose your Warlord.<br /> <br /> To be honest I'd take the teeth of terra long before I'd take a Relic Blade.]]></description>

You don't need a relic blade to kill <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(95);'>MEQs</span> in combat and he's expensive for using to just kill marines there are better and easier ways to do it. <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(112);'>RB</span> + <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(221);'>SS</span> is cheap compared to the other options but he's still and expensive model, make him a proper beat stick or leave him at home and take a Libby. Psychic Shriek will kill just as many <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(95);'>MEQs</span> without giving them the chance to hit back.<br /> <br /> Also I wouldn't put grav weapons on command squads on foot. Plasma is better as you get 3" extra range and against most things plasma is at least as good as grav if not better. Grav is only worth it if you are relentless so you get the 3 shots. Also storm shields on everyone is quite expensive for not a huge benefit. 3+ save models are generally just killed with volume wounds and with that config your command squad is now as expensive as Centurions and do the same job much worse.]]></description>

But realistically, at toughness 5, most of the usual suspects for instant death are removed. What that means is that you're paying 35 points for adamantium will and <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(468);'>EW</span> which you'll probably never use, unless you're facing a lot of force weapons or <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(123);'>str</span> 10. In the end 35 point is actually a lot, consider what you could use it for elsewhere. On top of that, a captain/<span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(746);'>CM</span> on a bike with some nice upgrades is already approaching the "a lot of eggs in one basket" kind of area (though still a worthy investment), and whilst it sounds like an effective protection for your investment, it just means more points tied up one dude who probably won't benefit from the upgrade in most games anyway. If you're up against Grey Knights, go for it. Or just do it for the fun/fluff. Otherwise, I'd say it's a cool but inefficient pointsink. Everyone's meta is different of course, but personally I would say that I don't see monstrous creatures <b>most</b> games. Again, for me I just think that 35 points spent elsewhere would make a difference in <b>every</b> game, whereas <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(468);'>EW</span> is only going to make any impact at all against specific lists where you could probably further work around it by just picking your battles more carefully. If you knew your match up beforehand then it might be a good buy, but if it's just a <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(167);'>TAC</span> list, I think you can do something much more consistently helpful with 35 points. 				<description><![CDATA[ This is the Command Squad that I run with my Salamanders<br /> <br /> 1 Apoth<br /> 2 Veteran- Power Axe & Storm Shield<br /> 2 Veteran- Meltagun & Stormshield<br /> <br /> Drop Pod<br /> <br /> 225 pts<br /> <br /> I use this squad as a tank hunting unit and will attach either Vulkan, a Librarian (Pyromancy), or a Tech Marine.<br /> <br /> The only problem I really run into is mass shooting, but I frequently run 2 Assault Squads with 2x flamers in pods to help soften opposing units from blasting off my command squad.  So far this set up has worked quite well.]]></description>
