Yeah the min troops are my concern with the list as well. But don't most wraith wing lists have min troops and rely on scythes to plop them down last minute? This list woul work the same way, it's just that the monoliths are the delivery system.

Help me choose my necron army.

Hmmm.

In both lists I reckon you have too many lanceteks. Particularly as you are keeping them in the GA, 5 is overkill. 3 would probably do fine, but normally I use 2 pairs of 2.

However, if you are mainly planning to use them for anti terminator, It makes more sense - is your meta terminator heavy?

For list A, also not too keen on the monoliths here. The synergy between walking warriors, GA and res orb is awesome, but 15 warriors out on their own is pretty exposed to CC. I'd suggest you drop a monolith and get scarabs to go with the spyders, with the remaining points used to buff the immortals to 10, put SW on both overlords and free points for another immortal squad. Oh, all immortals are Tesla?

For list B, I think I'm missing the plan here. Trazyn would be great in CC, but doesn't have a great save, so is better in a squad of Lych (say with S&B) particularly as you can use surrogate hosts. Also, with Monoliths, you can suck him and lych though the portal to address the mobility issue. In a CCB, the SoL isn't great for sweep attacks, and the armour save benefit from the Chariot probably won't last long enough (because just about every unit you assault can kill the chariot). He's also expensive - for the same points you could get an overlord with WS,SW,MSS,PS which would be much better for sticking in a chariot.

The stalker is obviously there to TL the lanceteks, but you need to have the HGC then, otherwise it is outranged by the lanceteks and will probably die before it has much chance to be useful.

For me, if you are taking spyders without scarabs, give them guns. Better still, give them guns and take scarabs!

Like I said, I'm obviously missing the strategy for list B, so feel free to ignore my comments.

With list B, unless your opponents can't deal with AV14 at all, I don't see how the various parts of the list work together. The only strategy I can see that works is if you keep liths centre board, blast everything that comes into your deployment zone, hide the CCB behind the liths (particularly trazyn) and use the spyders to head off any CC threats to the monolith.

If you put the liths forward, they will probably die too fast - you don't have enough stuff to support them to pull through the gates. The warriors are to few and too exposed to walk across the board. Maybe put the warriors in the GA, and make the Crypteks walk? The crypteks are everliving, which means they can come back even if they are all wiped out. They have the same save, so the only thing you are losing is the ability to regenerate warriors from partial wounds (which only works against people who haven't played vs Crons much).

I hope something from the wall of text above helps...somehow?!

Help me choose my necron army.

@ Mark- Thanks for responding, its helpful to just talk lists out, also a lot of fun.

I originally put the monoliths in because to me they are the iconic necron unit, but they quickly proved to be much better than I thought. They actually help alot with avoiding cc. I usually put them oin front of the monolith with the gate facing behind it. when the enemy gets to close I gate them behnd the monolith, and suddenly they're 6 inches back.

I've found that 10 destruktek shots is the exact number needed to take down a monstrous creature, and there are a lot of monstrous creatures in my meta. It also makes killing vehicles and temies more of a certainty. It can definitely be overkill, but most of the time I'm grateful for all the shots.

The idea for list b is pretty much to give them too much av 13+ to deal with. I've found people plan for about 3 vehicles, and pring 1 or two anti armor units in response. Suddenly being faced with 7 av 13+ vehicles is just not something most people can plan for , and once I've taken out their anti-armor they won't be able to do anything.

I've been running list A for a while, and I've found what happens is my opponent concentrates all his firepower on the warrior blobs, which can eventually wear them down. In list B, The troops would mostly hide in my backfield, out of line of sight, and gate in at the last minute, giving the enemy nothing to shoot at. Trazyn is there to give me a little horde cover and to act as another last minute scoring unit.

I was worried about the CCM's being fragile, because I've only used them a few times and did have a problem with that. Also, you and a previous poster raised concerns about lack of troops in list B, so maybe I should just stick with list A. Or maybe a hybrid of the 2 lists is the way to go. Something like this:

Necron Overlord: warscythe; mindshackle scarabs.
• 5 Crypteks: 5× Harbinger of Destruction.
• Catacomb Command Barge
Necron Overlord: warscythe; mindshackle scarabs.
• 5 Crypteks: 5× Harbinger of Destruction.

Triarch Stalker

15 Necron Warriors
• Ghost Ark
5 Necron Warriors
• Ghost Ark
6 Necron Immortals

Necron Monolith
Necron Monolith
3 Canoptek Spyders: 3× gloom prism.

1,997 points

Help me choose my necron army.

Good to hear that the Monoliths are working for you - I don't have any atm, but have been toying with a couple of lists that have them in. It seems to me that they are becoming more useful as 6th goes on. I'm drawn to the fact that you can pull anything through the gate - plus the fact you can deep strike it seems very useful (mishaps notwithstanding).

Re the lanceteks - I'm not surprised 10 will take down an MC. Do you find that they are more effective than the spyders though? Seems a bit of a double up is all.

Re the new list the only tweak I'd suggest is to swap the immortals for warriors, then ditch a gloom prism. Then put SW on both the Overlords.

In 5th, CCBs were awesome - autoinclude in just about all my lists. Now, they are good, and fit well in an AV13 + mech list, but I'm not including them as much. In fact, AV13 mech is pretty much the only time I use them. Must get creative and revise a couple of lists to try them out again.

Thx for the comments - I was curious how you saw B working. Have you played B? I'd be interested to hear how B went on the table.

Monoliths are really great. The thing that really makes them great is their versatility. Night scyths are better transports, and doom scyths and barges put out more firepower, but monoliths do both while being harder to take down. I'm always changing my list up, but the monoliths are the one constant. I used to march them up the board with wraiths or lychguard hiding behind them, and recently I've decided to go shootier with the lanceteks.

As for the lanceteks, they are better at taking down MC's in that they can do it from 36 inches away. I've gotten a few first turn Fateweaver and swarmlord kills with them. With the spyders you have to wait till they get close enough to charge you, which is always dicey.

I haven't played B yet. I don't think the list would require much finesse, except for the the CCB's, which would either drive up the board into the backfield or countercharge anything that gets to close, depending on the opponent. I think this conversation has steered me away from list B for now, I'll probably try the hybrid list first as a transition, to give me a chance to get used to the CCB's. I agree with you about the immortals, but at the same time I have the models, so I feel like I should use them.
