I want to see if I can make a army that stands a chance in the battle brothers weekend happening in January.

I will be using tau and would be the allied detachment organisation chart.
My team mate would either bring a Dark Eldar venom heavy army or a Ork Battle Wagon list.

Tau

Hq
Farsight

Troop 1
6x fire warrior with EMP grenades

Fast
Gun Drone Squad x4 drones

Fortifications
Aegis defence line
Quad gun

Troop 2
Kroot x10 with sniper rounds

Elite
xv104 with stim injector and advised targeting system

This comes out at 677pts leaving my team mate with 823
Tactics for my tau would be have my fire warriors and drones hide behind the ADL with one on quad gun
Kroot to infiltrate and take any objectives
The xv104 will deepstrike with farsight to provide lots of shots and as a monstrous creature and farsight with dawn blade will be able to assault

Farsight, is often overcosted unless you playing Farsight Enclave and want his Commander team, or you are running a Farsight Bomb, or you are using him to DS Target Lock Fusion Blaster Suits. Even DSing a Riptide isn't a great idea. Farsight is ok in Melee, but many armies will just assault your unit and break them. Also, you sacrifice a minimum of one turn of Riptie shooting and at least two NOVA Reactor attempts.
I'd look at running a generic Commander. He will have more firepower, will cost less, at the expense of a Fixed Warlord trait and Melee. A basic Iriidium Buffmaster and a Riptide will probably serve you better.

ATS is a terrible Riptide Upgrade. Try a VT for additional AA assuming that is an HBC Riptide. If you are deadset on DS a Riptide tactic, try a positional relay for outflanking Kroot.


I'm not a fan of DSing a Riptide, it is not a Melee unit, it is a durable and movile gun platform, don't miss out on 1-2 turns of shooting.
