MK III Iron Armour questions.

Couple of questions about said armour:

A) Would Jump pack equipped assault squads have used it? To my knowledge, Forgeworld have never produced a Mk III jump pack, but I presume if it were to have been used by jump-pack Assault squads (as against foot assault squads or breacher squads), then the standard Mk II Crusade jump-pack would have been used (as the Mk III is an up-armoured varient of the Mk II armour).

B) Lexicanum repeatedly states that the Mk II and Mk III armours had fixed position helmets - why is it then that Forgeworld presents them as fully rotatable and removable helmets? Am I to assume that this is simple a retcon? (and one for the better if you ask me!)

If anybody could answer those it would be a great help!

I've actually been wondering about this too. I don't think it's been retconed because it was mentioned in the whitedwarf with the space marine release

MK III Iron Armour questions.

A) FW have said that MK III is too heavy to use with a jump pack.

B) I think it's more of a modelling decision than a retcon - because of the autosenses, etc, in the armour the marine can turn his head and change his view without the helmet having to physically move, but that wouldn't look good on a model.

MK III Iron Armour questions.

MKIII is really only a modified version of MKII with extra armour on the front to give much better protection. If you really, really wanted to put a jump pack on a MKIII model then it seems likely it would be the jump pack design used on the MKII.

And yes, they do have fixed helms and despite how it looks all mine are fixed facing forwards, dynamic stances be damned!

MK III Iron Armour questions.

MK III is for heavy stuff - boarding actions, frontal assaults across ground.
Jump packs are for quick insertions, speed is key so the lighter MK II is used. Same way they don't give terminators jump packs.

I agree with the comments about why the MK II and III have free helmets rather than fixed - it also makes those armour marks fully convertible with existing ones.

MK III Iron Armour questions.

There's no reason Mk III can't have a Jump Pack. Its reinforced front is great for Melee combat so there's reason to suggest Assault Marines and Vanguard Veterans would were it.
