Deep Striking Deathwing Knights

Hello all,
I have started a ravenwing biker army recently and noticed a distinct lack of units in the elites slot for ravenwing.
So, I was wondering how much success people have had with deathwing knights deep striking along bikes in the midst of the enemy?
Any past experiences people have had playing like this are welcome.

Thanks,
HBMarley.

Disclaimer: I don't have any Ravenwing bikers, and usually play mostly DW.

While DSing the Knights off of the bikers' beacon might work better than a full-on DW assault thanks to the threat saturation that the bikes offer; it tends to leave them vulnerable to rounds of shooting and plasma-cannon blasts. It also makes them vulnerable to getting charged, denying them the extra attack (which, in my experience, they really need).

To keep it simple, DW Knights are most effective assaulting out of a Land Raider (either redeemer or crusader), where getting the charge is nearly guaranteed and buffed by either an Interrogator Chaplain, a Librarian with Prescience or for extra fun, Ezekiel.

I've been playing tri-raider bolter banner at 1500 points, and I keep a unit of DWK inside one of the land raiders to knock out anything that could get close to threatening them .... i'm a big fan of DWK's but i'm not sure how useful they would be deep striking since anything with mobility can keep away from them for a decent while (if your opponent knows what hes doing).

I did have a 5 man DWK squad hold off a 30 man ork boy squad for 4 turns last game I played though .... the last guy just wouldn't die. T5, 2+/3+ and striking at Int is golden.

Re:Deep Striking Deathwing Knights

Okay,
So the general idea is that a LR would be more ideal due to the low mobility of DWKs after the initial strike.
However, I dont have funds to buy a crusader at the moment, what are the major problems of deepstriking DWKs?

Thanks,
HBMarley.

Deep Striking Deathwing Knights

I am also a newbie regarding DA, but from what I can see, one of the benefits of the Deep Strike delivery method for other DA Terminators is that their shooting on that turn is twin-linked. An assault cannon would benefit from that (as would the storm bolters if you were shooting at non-vehicles).

The Knights don't shoot, so that makes it less desirable. Also, as @Waldo said, a good player will simply move away from them, as they're so slow. If you are facing an enemy that is going to come at you, then they are an awesome bulwark, as they are tough to kill.

But, as with all Space Marines close combat terminators, it's getting them to the fight that is a challenge, and the Land Raider is probably the best way to do that. However, if you can't buy a model, try it out! You just need to recognize that your bikes are liable to get killed, but if you can get the bikes into contact with an enemy unit and then bring the DWK down on top of them, it could be good.

Okay, so a Land Raider is definitely more effective as a delivery method. In what numbers would you recommend fielding them?
Thanks,
HBMarley.

In a Land Raider stick with 5, then add a character if you'd like.

Using RW homers to deep strike them definitely works. The bikes should be in combat, usually denying the Knights from being shot up too badly. With H&R your bikes can surge on while the Knights either mop up or obliterate something that is seriously threatening you.
