Help painting hazard stripes?!?!?

I am a nids / lizardmen player who wants to start a marine army, and after long hours of meditation and internal debate Over wether to pick iron warriors or imperial fists (my 2 favorite legions) I have decided on IW for a few reasons. I am fascinated by trench/siege warfare, I don't want to be on the same side or roboute girlyman and his ultrasmurfs, and FREAKING HAZARDS MAN!!!! The only problem is I can't find a guide and I don't trust myself not to wreck a bunch of models figuring out how to do it myself. (My painting hasn't developed much as nids and lizards are pretty damn easy to paint)HELP ME DAKKA-DAKKA you're my only hope!

Masking tape?

Available in all sorts of widths, simply paint an area yellow, mask off some stripes, and paint the exposed area black.

Never used that technique myself, but can't see why it wouldn't work. Some patience may be required on uneven surfaces, but nothing impossible.

Hmmm ill try it I was also wondering how well an extra fine detail sharply would work? Seems like that'd be easier if I try to freehand'em. Anyone tried either of these ways?

I use masking tape. Either buy it to size or cut it very straight-like with an exacto. I have had success with the tape, just make sure you paint the yellow, then do tape, then black. (Black then tape then yellow is a mess). Sharpies tend to not look as good in my mind, they shine a lot and are rarely straight lines.

The issue with a sharpie, or any other sort of pen, is getting a line that reaches into the crevices of any rivets etc, and more importantly, that is straight when you're working on anything with even slightly uneven surface detail, is very hard to do. I've tried using micro pens on stuff, and it is tricky to make it look like you haven't drawn all over it (which you have, but you know what I mean!)

If you've got access to an airbrush, I guarantee the masking tape trick will work, but I kind of inferred from your post that you're probably not enough into painting to own one, and my reservation that brushing on my allow paint to bleed under the tape, but other than that, it'll work.

Every time I've tried to paint masked areas by hand the paint flows under the tape. I've only had success with masking tape when using an airbrush.

Nope.

At least not with a compressor. Perhaps double would get you something good enough for this purpose.

It would be useful for the metallic aspect too, base black, make successive passes with increasingly lighter (in both tone and amount) silver coats, you'd have them looking awesome in no time.

I rarely have issues with the tape bleeding. I just put on each piece with tweezers, then press it in with the blunt side of a needle and make sure I press the entire thing flat to the surface . Of course, I rarely put the stripes onto round edges, as I like them best on weapons. The below is just an example:

Thank you guys, ill. Save up for a good airbrush. The extra money will be worth a good looking IW army, cuz tbh I don't think there are many cooler paint schemes out there, especially not on one of the other 19 legions (thousand sons might look cooler)
