FW Shoulderpads

Aloha friends,

I'm new to WH40K, and subsequently this forum (which makes for awesome lurking if i may add).
Got a quick question: i recently bought the FW world eater pre-heresy shoulderpads! Should i be using 2 shoulderpads per model or being more economical by using one pad per model?
Might seem like a stupid question and im sure it is, but i thought i'd check with you vets and lore nerds!
Is it a semi-requirement to have both pads on each troop, or is it simply down to how much of a hit your wallet can take?
Thanks in advance for the replies, advice and info!

This might be different in the Heresy, but you could easily be economical (and still technically correct) by taking 1 of the World Eater pads, place it on the left shoulder and then take a blank pad and put it on the right.

I think during the heresy it was still pretty much the same. One shoulder with the legion icon, but I think the other was usual just blank.

Either way, I usually just do the sigil on one shoulder

Looking at HH:Betrayal legionaries seem to wear their legion icon on one or both shoulders, and wear their squad type markings a bit less frequently but this seems to vary by legion. For example, after the reformation of the death guard under Mortarion their new doctrine had a lot of changing of hats depending on the needs of the operation so the depictions of Death Guard seem to have no sign of squad markings, whereas the World Eaters seem to have maintained the use of them. Emperor's Children don't seem to have them so much, more often having their legion number on the shoulder opposite the legion insignia. The Sons of Horus had one legionary from the heavy support squads shown to have squad markings, but the rest seem to just have either legion markings on their shoulders, blank opposite pads, or the Cthonian Serpent glyph.
