I'm new to WH40K, and subsequently this forum (which makes for awesome lurking if i may add).
Got a quick question: i recently bought the FW world eater pre-heresy shoulderpads! Should i be using 2 shoulderpads per model or being more economical by using one pad per model?
Might seem like a stupid question and im sure it is, but i thought i'd check with you vets and lore nerds!
Is it a semi-requirement to have both pads on each troop, or is it simply down to how much of a hit your wallet can take?

Generally, in 40k (so not Horus Heresy Era) a model will have 1 shoulder pad that has his chapter designation on the left should and on his right shoulder will be his squad designation (tactical, devastator, assault, etc...). For example, after the reformation of the death guard under Mortarion their new doctrine had a lot of changing of hats depending on the needs of the operation so the depictions of Death Guard seem to have no sign of squad markings, whereas the World Eaters seem to have maintained the use of them. Emperor's Children don't seem to have them so much, more often having their legion number on the shoulder opposite the legion insignia.
