Armies in parade board help.

Hi guys I'm starting an armies on parade board for my grey knight and I want in one corner an imperial building with my knights storming out the doors making a last stand against some deamons in the opposite corner now my problem is id like to make the deamons corner if the board look like it's eating away at the imperial world turning it into a deamon world. My idea was to use a polystyrene base with a coating of pva glue and gravel for protection but leaving the deamon corner bare so that when I spray it the spray melts the base but I'm unsure if it will melt it enough and then set hard when dry ? Or is there something else that will melt it enough to give a good effect and then set hard again ?

Yeah, should work.
If it's not melting enough then spray it some more.
For bigger holes/craters and more predictable/controllable results use polystyrene cement ie plastic glue.
Also fire, hot implements or a heatgun will work a treat.
just have a play with nearly anything solvent based and see what effects you can achieve.
Just be sure to work outside or in a well ventillated space or you'll go mad (but not in a good way).

Tbh I have no idea what spray or melting effect your talking about, do you have like a pic or anything? This sounds like something that'd be best sculpted with some cheap putty, you'd be more in control of the final product anyway.

When you use an aerosol based spray paint on Polystyrene it reacts and causes it to melt I'll have to have a few experiential and see what gives the best effect.
