This thread made me finally get around to coming up with an all-Slaanesh army to try out. I don't think it's ideal, but it looks like a lot of fun to try. The idea is to have very mobile MSU while the Lore of Slaanesh picks apart the enemy's battle line. Divide and conquer, nom nom nom bits at a time.

DP:
- Charmed Shield, Dragonbane Gem, Sword of Striking
- Allure of Slaanesh, Chaos Familiar, Scaled Skin, Soul Feeder
- Level 4 with Lore of Slaanesh
- Flying, Chaos Armor

3 units of 10x Forsaken of Slaanesh (M6, Swiftstride fits perfectly in the movement theme, good for chewing up smaller units and can give them Super Frenzy with the lore for 3-5 attacks each)

2x Chimera, both with regen and breath weapon, will stick near DP to form hit squad of doom and use his leadership bubble

2x Hellcannon, combos with Phantasmagoria to make big units run off the board

15x Hellstriders of Slaanesh with musician and standard, standard for Blood and Glory and for running down stragglers.

2x 5 naked Warhounds for chaff

(edit)

Oops, forgot flying/armor on DP and the hounds.

While I like the idea, if any army can pull off a giant it is chaos. Init 4 giant is pretty decent. Especially if you model him up in a zipper mask.

If you're going with the fast cav, I'd consider a sorcerer lord on steed of slaanesh. Flight is good, but vanguard is often better (since both march 20").

I'd say that's an option, but it brings some difficulties over the DP. The Hellstriders want to be very careful where they charge, and being a suddenly much more valuable target makes their lives difficult when it comes to getting a nice juicy flank. The Sorceror Lord isn't squishy compared to other casters, but he's definitely miles squishier than the DP. One wrong must-challenge and that could end poorly very quickly. Not as bad if you kit him out for survivability, but still. The DP WANTS to be in the middle of things. He naturally WANTS to be in the thick of battle where he can both cause absolute carnage in close combat and throw out ear-wrecking Choirs. The Lord, on the other hand, wants to be on the outskirts, carefully choosing hits fights, which mitigates the usefulness of Choir somewhat. The other problem is the chimeras. They want to stick with the general for the leadership bubble, which is super easy with the DP and provides the bonus of LD9. If the whole army is trying to stick in a bubble at that point the benefits of fast movement are mitigated somewhat. Lastly, you're gaining a few points back but losing an incredibly potent threat. I'm not convinced you could spend the points on something else with the same threat level.

Never actually tried a giant. Could be fun for shenanigans. And the zipper mask is WAY too tempting...

The Sorcerer vs Daemon Prince is situational.
If you lose yours to magic and shooting, then the 2+ look out really pays off.

If you don't want him in with the hellstriders, you could get some core fast cav.

-Matt

With a 1+/5++, a charmed shield, and a 2++ against flaming (Lore of Metal, flaming cannons, etc), plus a 20" fly behind terrain for full cover against cannons/rocks and behind units for hard cover vs normal BS-based shooting (he's not a Large Target, remember!), I've never had much trouble keeping a DP alive against magic and shooting. My biggest problem actually came against a friend's DE army that did some Lore of Death shenanigans against me, which would've toasted the sorceror on a horse all the same.

I'm also not really convinced that putting him with marauder horsemen would be the way to go. It would free up the hellstriders a bit, but now I'm eating into core and losing another threat in a Forsaken unit and I have a bunker that I want to get into combat even LESS than before, which makes getting those big Choirs off even more difficult. If I went the Sorceror route I think I'd rather have him with the Hellstriders and tool him out with a bit of combat to simultaneously provide magic and make the Hellstriders a more potent threat. A good chunk of the Sorceror's points comes from the fact that he has a bunch of armor and reasonable combat skills, which are easy to waste.

Lore of Death bypasses that LOS. All other shooting and magic don't really pose much of a threat to a DP in my experience so far, even if I do need to tuck him behind terrain against cannon-happy armies.

The Hellstriders are a big target, sure, but they can essentially choose what combats they're a part of. M10 with fast cav reforms makes them practically liquid. Focused shooting would certainly hurt, but MoS is handy here to avoid the panic tests.

On top of that, if I put the Sorceror Lord in there and they Vanguard forward, it's one giant "KILL ME!" sign. I'd actually probably keep them back a bit with the vanguard, and use it instead to try and maneuver them to some cover if I can manage it.

I don't know, I'm just really not seeing the appeal of jumping through so many hoops when the DP does exactly what's needed for this idea to work. If anything I'd be much more open to changing the core (I mostly just want to try Forsaken) or maybe tweaking the Hellstriders or even trying a giant as you mentioned.

In the midst of trying a game with it against coworker's Chaos Dwarfs. The Chaos Dwarfs have a very suboptimal list as he's new to the army and experimenting, but so far I love what I have going here. Forsaken might get replaced by chariots or maybe even a few units of marauder horsemen. The speed and drilling power is incredible, and the forsaken are basically just distractions for now, which would be more efficiently done by horsemen or chariots that could also pivot after moving and tactically withdraw when needed.
