I would split them up into two units while swapping the Skyray or Railhead to the allied Detatchment.

Keeping them together is fine, but increases the risk of a couple good shots taking them out, ie opposing IA Riptide with ignores cover. You aren't losing any firepower against an incoming flyer because all 3 broadsides can still target the same thing. What you gain is the ability to have a broadside shoot a different target (maybe a transport with 1 hullpoint left) as to avoid overkill.
