Aside from the two HH books A Thousand Sons and Prospero Burns, are there any good Space Wolf books floating around out there?

I tried to dig into the William King "Space wolf" book / omnibus thing.. but I got about ten pages in before I was ready to put a bolter in my mouth.
To be honest, I don't recommend Battle of the Fang or Blood of Asaheim. BLood of Asaheim is your standard SM (in this case the wolves) are bettar then all the other imperials and all are like trash in comparison to them. SoB give up in faith, follow wolf orders complicently, fall like pawns into their hand, and are portrayed like idiots letting in plague ridden individuals and being like the plague marines are too hard. The other forces there are generally treated sub par. And, as per usual, the other forces struggle whilst SW just rip them apart. Also how do SoB regain faith by watching somebody that doesn't believe the Emperor is god is inspiration?

Battle of the Fang's problem isn't quite it's writing. In general, it actually makes the victory of the SW a bit less painful than the excerpt it is based upon that was a SW victory. Heck, it actually gave a minor victory to the TS. That being said, it's one of those moments that even the best typing wouldn't save one from the sillyness of what they had to write about.

That being said, some people like these so in the end it is your choice!

Just be glad you aren't a fan of the Imperial Fists. They were the ones that setup the defenses themselves for the Battle of Terra and barely get noticed in the overall storyline of that battle. Everything I read says that the 'Blood Angels and Sanguinus' repelled the Traitor Legions from the walls three times....fanboi writting...bleh.

At least the Eldar get good portions here and there that aren't Groto or in a Marine Codex(The Battle of Orar is plot armor out the arse, SM Scouts ambushing Warp Spiders....really...?).

You've read Prospero Burns.

That's basically it.

Battle of the Fang is fine enough, but you should probably stop reading after Magnus' first scene on the Fang. It's all downhill from there.

Re:BL Request - Books that won't make my brain bleed

I'm already a pretty big germanophile in that regard. I'm both a history nerd and a mythology nerd, so I've got the heathenry bit down.

It was more that I wanted to try to reconcile what I know of pre-christian norse culture with what is already published and known about the Space Wolves so that I'm not running wholesale over the GW material with my own.

As it stands, I'm mulling over the idea of making a Great Company with a very heavy Wild Hunt theme, modeling them as the haggard and the damned - playing up the pagan / tribal nature of the fenrisians as much as possible, go borderline chaos with it. That unsettling almost spectral nature.

Then pattern the fluff of this particular company that it has been tasked to some great mission from which it is not expected to return. Doomed men knowing full well that they eagerly ride into the jaws of death.

Of course, the ultimate problem here is that there are only 12 companies and those are already all named and exist in the fluff. So I either have to say that they were a company stricken from the records, or even claim that when they left Fenris, they took upon themselves the label of the 13th company - which has "come to represent all of the Great Companies in the history of the Space Wolves who have been destroyed in battle, lost on campaign, or recounted their oaths of fealty." On the one hand, that would be an interesting kind of symbolism, on the other hand, it feels a bit cheesy - especially as "the 13th company" actually exists as a legend in and of itself in the universe, what with wulfen coming out of the warp and tearing whatever to bits.
