Consistency of matte medium

I bought some matte medium to create some glazes, and I found it to be gel-like; almost a toothpaste consistency. Is that standard? It seems a little hard to mix too.

The glazes worked pretty darn well, but I'm wondering if there's a more mixable version of the additive.

Thank you!

The Liquitex Matte Medium I just recently purchased is somewhat thinner than the paints I add it to. Definitely not gel-like/toothpaste consistency.

However .. you can get "fluid" matte medium and "gel" matte medium. Sounds like you bought the gel version?

Sounds like you got a 'Gel matte medium". I have never used it but have used the more standard liquid matte medium. Check out this link that lists a lot of different types....

http://www.dickblick.com/products/liquitex-acrylic-mediums/

The other product you might want to look at is Glaze Medium. Vallejo sells it in dropper bottles and the consistancy is, as the name implies, more glaze like.

Re:Consistency of matte medium

Thanks all!

I looked at the bottle and it doesn't say gel, but I guess it is. Hopefully the art store will accept the return. I'll also pick out some glaze medium while I'm at it!
