Newb Mistake

Hey all... I recently bought a grey primer to see it's merits against black, as I've found black a bit too dark under some paints. So there I was spraying my grey model, and of course the primer is the same colour as the plastic. I didn't realise how much I had sprayed and ended up ruining all the detail on the model. What is the best way to remove spray paint primer so I can be more careful next time? I've read about removing paints but not primer. It's the army painter grey primer.

Do a search in the forum for stripping paint or removal. This is a well discussed topic. Your choices span a wide variety of budgets and methods and they will be the same for primers as well as paints. Good luck!

I recommend Isopropyl alcohol and a soft toothbrush for plastics and metal(not finecast).

" I've read about removing paints but not primer."....

Most of the models painted have paint over the primer, so just primer in theory will come up better.

Any of the thousand or so posts on stripping should give more than enough info.

I do understand the issue however, as I sometimes use the gray primers on projects, and an buddy of mine used it for an guard project he was working on....it was hard for him to see where the primer was!!!!

best of luck!

I don't know what you have access to in the UK but here is what I use.

La's totally awesome (my personal recommendation)

Simple green

Personally I use only white primer now because all the other painted colors are much more bright and vibrant.
