Getting old paint back from the grave

Hey fellow Dakkanauts,

I received a nice gift from my S/O today. 64 old paint pots of various colours, types and ages. Only problem is most of the liquid in the pots have dried up.

Does anyone have tips and or tricks in paint thinner to revive the ailing pots.

Thanks in advance,

GTD

Getting old paint back from the grave

If the paint has actually dried, there's naught to be done. If it's just thickened - even severely - it can be resuscitated. I received an ancient pot of Skull White a while back that had turned into something akin to a firm custard - no amount of shaking could even move it, but it had give, if poked. Just broke up the mass with a toothpick and stirred like mad, adding small amounts of water as I went. After a while, it had loosened up to the point that I could switch from stirring to vigorous shaking. Stuff is still viable, years later - a few more drops of water and a good shake every so often keeps it in good order.

Some may recommend additional mediums and they aren't a bad idea, but all you need is water and elbow grease.
