Chapter Master

Hey dakkas,

So I am starting my second army and its going to be Space Marines.

GW doesn't have a chapter master model, the only one I see that I would probably use is the space marine captain but before I do I wanted to see if anyone had any awesome ideas on a model I could use or convert into a nice looking chapter master?

Please let me know if you have any ideas or if you did it for your army

Thanks everyone!

Chapter Master

The new Sternguard Veteran kit comes with plenty of great bits that would do well to pimp out a CM.
I'd recommend kitbashing Sternguard bits with SM Captain bits.
If you cannot afford to purchase both boxes (although doing so will allow you build a CM w/Honour Guard) you can purchase individual bits from ebay which would be cheeper than buying 2 kits, however this will be the more expensive route if you look at in $ per model.
Hope that helps

Peace

I find that deciding the loadout for a model really helps when tracking down suitable parts for a conversion.

The masters of the chapter box set, and the new captains (like the lord executioner) would all be pretty easy basis for a chapter master conversion- or as Xendarc stated, mixing the new sternguard/vanguard with a commander box.

Chapter Master

Unless you are going with a named character, a chapter master is just a captain++. So do whatever you'd do to make a new captain, and just turn it up a notch with the extra/bling/paint.

These days, the multipart vet kits, both stern and vet, are where it's at for making HQs. Soooo many cool bits. The old multipart captain is still good, albeit overshadowed by the newer boxes.

If you want some examples, I've done a number of things with those boxes myself. I made some honor guard and a pair of captains, plus some vanguard. Details are in my blog (link in sig)

Chapter Master

You have such a huge range of models to pick from in the Space Marine product list. For a Chapter Master, I'd say grab a Sternguard kit to be the honor guard (if you plan to have an HG of course), or even the MK2 Veterans box. Then with the actual CM, you can look around the Games Workshop range and use some of their already named models like Khan or He'Stan and rework them considerably like shaving off heraldry and such.

If I were you, I'd buy my actual Chapter Master from Scibor Miniatures. Their power-armored models are very unique, slightly larger than the standard space marine (which is good, because CMs are uber-ubermen), and look completely different than GW's stuff, yet still similar enough to easily pass as a power-armored marine.

Good luck, and have fun!

Can I ask what Loadout you're planning on giving him or what theme/chapter you're going with?
I'm interested to see what you will come up with now

You might also consider using a Forge World model.

The Masters of the Chapter are all really nice models but they are a bit static.

If you got one of the earlier armour types that FW do then you could make your own starting with a more interesting base model than the standard plastic ones.

You might also consider one of their character models like the legion praetor.
