I've played 40k since the day 3rd edition came out, though I'm kinda dating myself there. Starting with eldar, rapidly moving to Salamanders (back when they had initiative 3 and no speeders!) I finally found my true love in the NIghtlords. Sadistic, with an alluring broken nobility, I diligently painted them as well as my 14yr old self could. Simon Spurrier supercharged my NL love affair shortly thereafter, and I promised myself I'd improve like a champ. It's been an on and off sort of deal (since I'm obviously not at a 15 year experience level with painting) but I've never forgotten where I really started 40k.

I've had a fun little plog on the B&C for awhile now. I thought I would migrate some of the best points over here to both keep me motivated and to get a second opinion as I learn to paint and model more skillfully. I've got a few fun conversions, and some actual paint going now. I'll be improving that, getting some fun fluffy bits happening, and generally making a mini-nuisance of myself ^_^

To answer your questions:

1.) The Fire Raptor is *much* better to assemble than the Storm Eagle. I think that FW learned a lot with that kit and took pains to make the Fire Raptor more user friendly. The only real problem I ran into is in the fuselage. It's a bit long, so the resin can get a bit warped which makes some of the connections finicky. Nothing a bit of pinning couldn't fix though. That's it aside from a bit of general gap filling here and there.

2.) I'm not as big a fan of the Chapter House kit as I thought I'd be. Admittedly this is my first big CH kit, so I don't have much to compare it with in their line. But while they're both based on the Stormraven, you can really tell a difference between FW and CH in this instance. There isn't a whole lot to the CH kit, and it is a tad flimsy. Unfortunately there's a bit more gap filling to be done even though the FW kit is a much bigger end result as well. You do have to pay for the FW quality, but I think it'd be worth it in this instance. The FW kit is so much larger and more involved, I feel like you end up with a much more substantial model as a result.

Don't get me wrong thou, with the work put into it though, I do kinda like my little MKII Chubby pattern Stormeagle.
