If you want an understanding of the fluff, you should read the books, not try to piece it from forum answers which are often incorrect or based on fan fiction. As for Kor Phaeron, well, the man seems to be the most powerful sorcerer in the galaxy not named Magnus the Red or Lorgar. He defeated Guilliman, but only through the use of his sorcery.
