2000pt Ultramarines + Calgar

Im going to be playing this against a Marine player, i always try to keep my lists fairly "all comers" im worried that im lacking in the anti- air department but im hoping that devastator doctrine will help out. My main concept is that i am going to choke my enemies in bodies and make their anit-tank weapons useless. Scouts will hold objectives, CC scouts and Assault Marines will tarpit incoming beatstick units. The only thing i really worry about is my foot slogging Calgar, even with copious amounts of bubble wrap he could become a big target, but I guess he can take alot of shots, plus the other 4 tact squads will be surging forward with him. Let me know what you think!

Marneus Calgar

Honour Guard x5 + Chapter Banner

Tacitcal Squad x 10 + Meltagun

Tacitcal Squad x 10 + Meltagun

Tacitcal Squad x 10 + Plasmagun

Tacitcal Squad x 10 + Plasmagun

Scouts x 10 Close Combat Weapons + Power Sword

Scouts x10 Snipers/Camo Cloaks + HB

Bikes x 5 + Gravguns x2

Assault Squad Flamer x 2 + melta bombs

Assault Squad Flamer x 2 + melta bombs

Devastators x 5 + Lascannon x4

Devastators x 5 + HB x 2 ML x2

Thunderfire Cannon

100 marine bodies is a lot of 3+ to kill. You mobility is obviously very limited. In objective missions though you'll be formidable as you can combat squad everything and have 12 scoring units. You are going to have to be careful though. You have precious little range threat, and even with all your scoring you will have to position such that you can't be contested, otherwise jetbikes, crisis suits and the like will just zoom over, shoot a hole into you and 2D6 assault move into contesting range.

Seems like kind of a boring list to play as you'll mostly be removing models the whole game and hoping the game ends while you have enough left to mob objectives. In PtA you'll be mostly screwed, you just don't have much killing power and precious little AT+AA.

You're walking these guys?

I can't see that as being very viable. I run a 2000 point marine all-comers list and I think I would have little difficulty with your list, and I don't consider myself competitive.

I'd highly suggest dropping one tac squad and picking up 4 rhinos or drop pods. I think you'll b MUCH stronger that way.

Re:2000pt Ultramarines + Calgar

Well i faced off against some nova marines with the badab character and a mess of terminators. I ended up switching a tac squad out for 4 rhinos, which worked out well. I ended up losing because it was emperors will and he managed to get some scoring terminators on top of my objective and my assault scouts had barely been wiped off of the opponents objective. But i did leave him with only 7 models left compared to my 30, they had just gone too far forward before the termies had deep striked on top of my objective, which i had left bare. Next time I may drop the honor guard all together and maybe spread their points around to get heavy weapons in the tact squads with razorbacks instead of rhinos.

Template weapons would kill you off easily. There's ummm... vindicators, basilisks, helldrakes, devil dogs, thunderfire cannons, fire prisms, hell hounds, and lots more. Your community must not play many for you to run around with all those tacs... Even a Hoard of storm boys would lay waste to that, just because they can out attack you by volumn. Your 3+ wont mean much when theres +20 attacks comming at you. And you will get at most 10, maybe 11-12 attacks (depending on how you kit your sgt). They look cool, but their performance sucks to be honest. I've tried the whole body count thing before. Tac squads get wrecked by volumn/ template everytime time. :( I wish tacs could be more useful other than just barely holding onto a strat point.

I spent a fair amount of time rushing enemy vehicles and punching them to death, or holding out in ruins and shooting them up with a fairly large amount of bolter fire.

Ditto on the assault scouts, while a lucky outflank got them in position to get the enemy objective, i wouldnt totally rely on it. The snipers on the other hand were very unmovable in holding objectives and were good for the price.
