How do I paint Phil Kelly-esque Tyranids?

So this summer I sold most of tyranid connection for a variety of reasons, one of which was that were painted poorly. With the new Nid codex on the horizon, I'm getting ready to jump back in. And since at the moment I have no one to play Nids with, this will be purely for a modeling enjoyment since before I rushed to paint my Nids as quickly as possible just so I can field them.

For my new Nid paint scheme, I want it to be like the famous Phil Kelly Tyranids:

http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/wnt/blog.jsp?pid=1700100-gws

A big question is how do I achieve the glossy, almost slimy black color of Phil's Nids? I'm assuming its just a black primer coat spray over with some short of clear gloss spray? How exactly would I achieve this?

Black body aside, a big way I want to deviate from Phil's color scheme is I want the carapace on my Nids to be gold, specifically Burnished Gold/Auric Armour Gold. I already know from experience that the best way to get the base color down is to first base the carapiece with Iyanden Darksun/Averland Sunset, then paint that over with the gold color. My question is what colors would be best to highlight the carapace? I've noticed for almost every other Nid colorscheme, people highlight the edges of their carapaces' with different colors, like blue for HF behemoth or purple for HF Leviathan. What would be a gold color to highlight my gold Carapaces' with that would almost go well with the black body?

This is the closet approximation I can make for now using a paint scheme generator I found:

How do I paint Phil Kelly-esque Tyranids?

I would black primer, black basecoat, do the yellow basecoat then the gold, and finish up with a gloss oil clear over the 'slimy' bits. Check my gallery for photos of Tyranids, if you like the gloss coat on the carapaces, try out the Humbrol clear oil. It's great stuff.

How do I paint Phil Kelly-esque Tyranids?

I use this one almost exclusively.

http://www.humbrol.com/shop/paints/enamel-paints/aa0388-35-varnish-gloss-14ml-enamel-varnish/

The satin is okay too, but I really like the gloss finish. Hope this helped!
