Varnish + Water = Profit?

Hello again, so I was trying to use my airbrush to put a matt varnish on one of my models but I cannot seem to get it on without it frosting on me (Using Vallejo's Matt Varnish that comes in a dropper bottle) so upon further investigating the label it says that it can be mixed with water... So perhaps if I make a varnish "wash" where I can just slap it all over the model and let it dry under a lamp would that help combat frosting? Or would it not even bond due to being watered down that much? Or is there a trick to airbrushing it on without frosting?

The problem is that frosting occurs due to humidity, because you are atomizing the mix it binds with water particles in the air and the frost effect occurs. The result may differ if you mix it in but I would brush it on first with one model and if it still frosts then you have way to much water in the air. The best times during the year to seal models in the south (Florida is not included) is during the Spring and Fall. You should be fine with Colorado but that is where my money is at with it running through an airbrush.

I use, and really like the Vallejo matt varnish. My personal recipe is as follows;

3 parts Vallejo Matt Varnish
7 Parts Future Solution(basically a 50/50 mix of distilled water and Future Floor Polish)

This leaves a finish that is somewhere between semi-gloss and flat, leaning more toward flat. If you mix straight water, the result is very flat. I choose to add the Future because it gives a little more durability to the finish. The other thing that helps is several thin, quick cotes as opposed to one thick cote.

Ashton
