Tau Escalation list Tiger Shark AX-1-0 1750

Recently I took the time(dollar) to get me a tiger shark, absolutely love it- just struggle to build a list around it (660 is an expensive flyer!)

I've played two games with it so far and lost both times - sad face.

(FYI the tiger shark hasn't been destroyed and it only took 2 hull points in the second games )

The first game was up against Ultramarines with DA allies; Tigiruis, DA librarian, storm raven + 2 storm talons, devastators, tact marines etc.

He hid in his deployment, holding the one objective and hiding as much as possible. I destroyed everything that was within los of the 3 riptides and would have won the game if i had remembered where i had put my objective... other side of the board to where my fire warriors where not... so! first game i would have won for it not being me forgetting the main objective!

second game... vs Revenant Titan, 4 wave serpents, dire avengers, spirit seer.

for !?!?!? sake!...

HIS warlord trait was -1 reserve rolls...(GREAT)

Mine was Night fight first turn... fat use that is when the titan can move 36"!!!

anyway,

Tigerlilly didn't come on till the 4th turn due to horrible reserve rolls, 2 riptides died from titan turn 1, 3rd killed itself Nova charging on turn 2.

The broadsides snap fired at the Rev and took off 4 ( yes 4!!) HP from the bastard, which was sweet but not enough to keep me happy.
Warlord died turn 5 due to immense amount of shots from 3 serpents.

When Tigerlilly came on, she hit the rev but WE being the clever bastards we are, mistook the rule and was playing it as this;

if the rev moves he gets a 4++++ save, if the rev doesn't move, he gets a 3++++ save.
( slowed, i know)

I lost this game due to good luck on his side/ bad luck on mine, the immense firepower of his list and getting a few crucial rules wrong.

Now my question is, can someone help write a balanced list with the tiger shark in it to tackle not just Titans but a well rounded lists?

so far my list has been

tool box commander to go with Ripentiden

3 riptides
2 with ion,
1 heavy bc

3 broadsides
2 units FW
1tigerlilly with dpods +decoy launchers.

How can i make a more competitive, fun and productive list?

look forward to your feedback, cheers!

Re:Tau Escalation list Tiger Shark AX-1-0 1750

Hello,

I am a Tau player myself and have put a good amount of time into this subject. First off, Tau Super Heavies are not that good. With the AX10 being the best we have, its not even that great. Now I too would like to take part in this Escalation madness so I have decided on a Tau Gun line list that I think when incorporated with Void Shields and the AX10 can prove to be deadly. So what I would do is take a lot of Broadsides because for the amount of firepower they put out, they are a cheap cost. I would only run 2 Riptides max. If you are going with a gun line version of Tau then there is not that much of a point to run even 1 Ion Accelerator Tide. I would take 1 Heavy Burst Cannon tide minimum, and then if you have the points for it, take another. Now for the AX10. I would just let it sit behind cover (if you can get any that can cover it) or the Void Shields for a Turn or so. Then I would on turn 4 or 5 (if you have the chance) go on the offensive and fly the Tiger Shark out and just rush up the board with it, attempting to get as many cover advantages as possible. I would also put some Crisis Suit teams in reserves to deep strike so you can take out the pesky models that are out of line of sight of your gun line. You could take some single Crisis Suits to capture objectives, but I like them in sets of 3. I would drop the Fire Warriors because personally I don't like them, and they are just shots output, you could use those points and maybe any leftover ones you have to take more Broadsides or even maybe another Riptide. IMO just drop them so you can take something that might have a chance at doing something more productive at downing your opponents Titan or whatever powerful model they are taking. I say that because once their powerful piece goes down, you shouldn't have much trouble with the rest of the army because they spent so many points on that one bad$$ Revenant or whatever. You could also take a Buffmander (Buff Commander) and attach it to the Riptide so it becomes a shooting beast. Now what would really help all of us Tau people would be the R'Varna being 40k approved. What I am planning on doing is playing more of an anti super heavy/ gargantuan creature Tau. It will essentially be deep striking Farsight + Crisis Suit Melta Squad, some sort of gun line behind Void Shields, and allying Inquisition for some Jokareo weapon smiths so I can have lascannon support. I also understand the want to table your own epic model too. I hope that some of these tactics can help you think about it for now, and I will make sure to post a list after I formulate it when I have the time. This is just part of my opinion on how to run an Escalation ready Tau army so I will also keep some of these tactics etc. posts coming to help out not only you, but other people with the same questions. If you have any other questions just ask, and you could also check out the threads that I have started on this subject. It is called Tau Super Heavy Vehicles For Escalation, or something like that. I think that the best thing that you could do now is take some of this advice and then formulate your own list. I would then suggest that you post it and try to get some constructive criticism. This way its a list that you generally like because you made it, and you can get some other insight form players on it. I know that this might be information overload (especially since I notice that you are new to Dakka), but try to take in as much info from not only me, but others with knowledge on this info. Then its really up to you to make a list, get suggestions, and go test it out. Again, I hope that this can help you, and if you have any other questions just post or PM me.

-Commander_Farsight
