The question is - how do you *use* it properly? Do you apply it after priming but before painting so you have all the layers visible? Do you apply it after everything else to add some final detail? Or instead of redoing baselayer I go straight to highlights.

It depends on the look you are going for though because sometimes you want it everywhere and sometimes you want it just in the crevices.
