All models (cavalry) and their mounts are treated as a single model and cannot dismount.
Back track in the book from pg 105 with character mounts to cavalry.
The only way the lord can leave his mount is if the monster is slain and vice versa.

You have to kill the entire unit to get points for it. Rider/Mount are one unit.
