Looking to make a Ravenwing list with my new toys

X-mas was good to me and got a lot of new stuff. I am still very new to the game and not sure how to build me RW army against a Eldar who runs 4 wave serpents (think that is what they are called. transport that has a gak ton of shots) and a wraith knight. Here is what I have:

18 bikes
3 Land speeders
3 attack bikes
1 dark shroud
1 lib on a bike
6 black knights (3 are made to be RW command w/ banner)

I also have:

15 terminators
30 marines
1 dev squad

How would you fit this army (weapons, options, and so on) against an Eldar player. Thanks a lot for your advice. Also, if you need or what any extra info let me know.

4 Wave Serpents is a tough prospect, what kind of points level are you aiming at? I would guess about 1250 if he only ran what you mentioned, but I might be way off. The best way to take out Wave Serpents is to drop behind them and fire off Assault Cannons or Meltas or whatever into that soft rear armour. Plasma is a fairly good option against the Wraithknight, as are Missile Launchers, lascannons, and basically any high-strength shooting you can get ahold of. Rate of fire is preferred because it deals with Wave Serpents more effectively, so plasma up - the Dark Angles do it better than just about anyone else, after all. Rough list outline would be Ravenwing with tons of Plasma, the guy who makes Ravenwing troops, and a Deathwing squad with assault cannons to Deep Strike in behind some Wave Serpents. Try to use LOS to limit the damage his serpents do until the Deathwing can come in and hopefully take a couple out.

Double MM speeders might be nice depending on what else he runs, Melta is kind of wasted vs the serpents unless you can get rear shots because you basically can't pen and they always have cover saves to whittle down what few shots you have - but the Wraithknight doesn't like melta and it will eat up any other vehicles he brings. Your basic bolters are almost worthless until you can open up some of those transports (again depending on what else he likes to field) so you want lots of bikes with as many special weapons as you can fit.

Re:Looking to make a Ravenwing list with my new toys

Ok first of all, if you are playing ravenwing then go the whole way. I wouldn't mix terminators or tac squads in there.

Secondly, check the FAQ if you haven't already. You will notice that ravenwing command squad can be upgraded to 5 models. This makes the apothecary more worthwhile, and also the dakka banner more survivable.

Ignore the previous comments poster about shooting waveserpents in the rear, against decent players this just wont happen. Instead bikes have a far better solution than most, just charge them. All your guys have krak grenades, use your mobility and take them down in cc. Shooting them is just a waste of time.

If your opponent has dark reapers, which ignore your armour and jink, then a PFG on the libby is a good way to go.

Here is a list I use at 1000k points:

HQ
Sammael - jetbike
Ravenwing Command Squad x5 – Champion, Apothecary, Dakka standard bearer, Grenade Launcher.

TROOPS
RAS - 3 man squad, 2 meltaguns, +1 Attack bike with MM
RAS - 3 man squad, 2 meltaguns, +1 Attack bike with MM
RAS - 3 man squad, 2 meltaguns
RAS - 3 man squad, 2 flamers

Wraithknights are hard to deal with when using ravenwing. Ravenwing command squads are by far the best choice to do it though, spam plasma at them and use melee for those rending hits. You could try and get a pfg libby nearby to limit the damage done back to you, or take the hits on sammael, and hope your 4++ save and 5+ FNP will be enough.

At higher points games I would get 2 more attack bikes, fill out the bikes squads to 6 bikes each, get a libby on a bike with pfg, and another Ravenwing command squa with the ravenwing banner.

Just remember that you have a large alpha strike, so try to get the first turn and hit them hard asap
