sounds like either the paint is too thick (comes out in splotches) for the pressure.

Not sure exactly what you mean....can you somehow take a pic of what it looks like if you spray a line down a piece of paper?

We don't really need an airbrush section, we just need people to search before they ask "what airbrush should I buy" as that is about 90% of the traffic....and gets asked weekly.

The next most common thread is "how do I thin my paints" thats about every other week....

This question - a new one - is a welcome sight.....

Oh the airbrush is a veda WD-180 its a cheap iwata knockoff that had great reviews and was all my budget could afford at the moment.
I have had some good results for my experience with airbrushes with the larger nozzle and needle but wanted to try the smaller size for finer detail work.
Here is my first attempt at plasma weapons with it.

I had something similar happen once when I forgot to change the nozzle when using a smaller needle.

It may be the parts you are using are incorrect / mismatched, or defective

Put back your regular nozzle, cap and needle and give it a go - if it sprays ok, your problem is likely with the needle\nozzle\cap combo.

airbrush split spray pattern

Looking at the picture it is definitely a flow issue. If the airbrush you have is an Iwata knock off then I am going to assume it is built somewhat the same way.

This is a diagram of Iwata parts;

http://www.merriartist.com/Iwata_Eclipse_Parts_s/605.htm

IF you look at part number three there should be a similar part on your knock off. IF you look at the this part, on the inside of it will be 3 small holes. These holes are the vents that the air passes through to atomize with the paint and create your pattern. If one of these holes becomes clogged, it will change the angle and appearance of the spray pattern.

The other thing that concerns me a little is the texture of your entire pattern, it is spotty all the way through, this is not normal for ink. Your initial pattern looks like the result of a bent needle, or a needle with a bur, or an improperly sized needle.

If you go back to your same set up, does the problem still exist?

A.

If the paint is to thick try thinning it or pulling the needle a little back to allow flow. Sometimes it can be to tight up at the nozzle for thick paint. Also I may recommend a sonic cleaner to clean it to break up small particles of paint that may have dried up in your airbrush.

Good Luck
