1750pt Space Wolves

Here's a list I came up with, with the goal of helping a buddy of mine ready his Orks for a 1750pt tournament. I may also enter in the tournament. I've found this point level a little difficult with which to build a list. I intend to have Rune Priest 1 in the LR Redeemer with a unit of Grey Hunters, the other back with the Long Fangs. I have a second, similar list that replaces one Runepriest, and Dreadnought with Arjack and 4 Wolf Guard Terminators in the Land Raider Redeemer. I feel that list may be putting too many of my eggs in one basket, where as this list is a little more versatile. What do you guys think?

HQ:

Rune Priest

Runic Weapon; Frag and Krak Grenades; Runic Armour; Bolt Pistol; Chooser of the Slain, Codex powers

Rune Priest

Runic Weapon; Frag and Krak Grenades; Runic Armour; Bolt Pistol, Divination

Elites

Dreadnought
Smoke Launchers; Searchlight; Dreadnought CCW (with build-in Heavy Flamer); Assault Cannon

Troops

10x Grey Hunters Pack
Power Armour(x10); Frag and Krak grenades(x10); Close Combat Weapon(x10); Bolt Pistol(x10); Bolter(x8); Flamer; Meltagun; Wolf Standard; Mark of the Wulfen;

10x Grey Hunters Pack
Power Armour(x10); Frag and Krak grenades(x10); Close Combat Weapon(x10); Bolt Pistol(x10); Bolter(x8); Flamer; Meltagun; Wolf Standard; Mark of the Wulfen;
1x Rhino; Storm Bolter; Smoke Launchers; Searchlight;

10x Grey Hunters Pack
Power Armour(x10); Frag and Krak grenades(x10); Close Combat Weapon(x10); Bolt Pistol(x10); Bolter(x8); Flamer; Meltagun; Wolf Standard; Mark of the Wulfen;
1x Rhino; Storm Bolter; Smoke Launchers; Searchlight;

Fast attack

3x Thunderwolf Cavalry
- 2x Thunderwolf Raider; Power Armour; Frag and Krak grenades; Storm Shield; Close Combat Weapon;
- 1x Thunderwolf Raider; Power Armour; Frag and Krak grenades; Storm Shield; Power Weapon;

Heavy support

Predator
Smoke Launchers; Searchlight; Autocannon; Lascannons;

Land Raider Redeemer
Twin-linked Assault Cannon; Flamestorm Cannon(x2); Frag Assault Launcher; Smoke Launchers; Searchlight; Multi-melta;

6x Long Fangs Pack
- 1x Squad Leader; Power Armour; Frag and Krak grenades; Bolt Pistol; Close Combat Weapon;
- 3x Long Fang; Power Armour; Frag and Krak grenades; Close Combat Weapon; Missile Launcher;
- 2x Long Fang; Power Armour; Frag and Krak grenades; Close Combat Weapon; Lascannon;

Looks pretty good, but I would get the dread into a drop pod. The loadout is for close quarters combat, but right now you have to footslog em, and it is likely it will drop before it can fire. A pod puts it in the backfield and lets it unload, drawing fire away from the rest of your army.

Consider terminator armor over runic armor for your priests. The one with the long fangs could use the hard 5++, although I could see the argument to keep runic on the redeemer priest so you can sweep.

With rending and decent strength, I don't think you need a power weapon on your thunderwolves. 3 storm shields may also be overkill.

I'd definitely prefer to have that Dread in a pod, I've started scratch-building one, but haven't finished. Would it be better to equip him for more mid-range?

You could do long range, to have a bit more mesh with your pred/fangs, and provide some backfield support. Even a shooty dread can tarpit in CC when needed. Your best bet for shooting is rifleman(TL autocannons on each arm) but if you are hard up for points autocannon/assault is passable. Auto/missile could maybe work, kinda.... I would still opt for the pod for something to drop in and wreck havoc, but if you need to run em in the meantime, rifleman or auto/assault. It is hard to justify non long fang long ranged units in the wolves book, though.

Since your up against orks, a dread is a prime target for lootas, but in assault is very hard to stop. Assault cannon and flamer wrecks all ork units, and your just not going to outshoot lootas in cover with a single long ranged dread of any flavor(or outshoot any AT strong enough to tank the dread)

I guess I'll run it as is, and have the Dread stick to cover and behind vehicles until he gets where I want him. The only other two times I've used him, he did nothing beneficial until he charged a unit and exploded. We'll see how he does this time. He may get cut.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Well, the list didn't fair well. A drop pod list would have faired better I think. Vanguard deployment forced me to start at the far end while he dug in under his looted landing pad with six cannons and three Lobbas. Six Grot bombs did work too. Needless to say, I barely made it to combat, where I did well but fell due to attrition. Long Fangs were worthless for the third time in a row, as was my Predator. Together they barely managed to chip away half of one squad of Lootas. All in all, it went about as I expected.

I've never won a game under 2k points. Any advice for playing Space Wolves effectively at lower points?

I would pop the Dred and build up some wolf scouts/guard and a lone wolf if you could.

More boots on the ground and without the drop pod sloggin him is just gonna get him shot down before he can be very effective in my experince. Specially with a fast and swarm army like Orks

and for the long fang squad leader the codex says "Must replace with one of the following" doesnt it? I am at work and dont have it infront of me (its in the car :C ) but I am pretty sure he has to have an upgrade.
