Re:Messing around with new nids 1850

Flyrant with 2 devourers was always a good choice and is now cheaper, so go for it - maybe even 2 at 1,850 ...

Tervigons are still good as troops and if you're running the 30 gants tax then I would suggest adding about 10 devourers to the unit to give them some more serious firepower at 18" - the other 20 are just the meathshield that will never run away.

Fexes are also much cheaper now and 2 devourers seems to be the way to go with them.

Venomthropes I can sort of see as well, but not really getting the genestealers. That's 400 points in units I see as having only marginal results. Troops are not an issue for you, so maybe look at biovores in the remaining HS slot (still good), gargoyles in FA. For the 2 genestealer units I can run 6 biovores, a unit of 20 gargoyles and still have points for those devourers on the gants. Either that or run the second flyrant, 3 biovores and the devourers.

Automatically Appended Next Post:

Ravenous D wrote:
Problem with devourers is that you wont be in range of anything turn 1, ever. Ok it stops the flyrants dying, but that's a very expensive meathshield when the flyrants can just hop from cover to cover and try to keep out of LOS of the quadgun - not something you can reliably do if you've 4 flyers to keep moving.

Tyrannofex is better as said elsewhere with the close range weapons incuding thorax and not with the rupture cannon - WS3 and no twin-linking does not a reliable weapon make - just ask any IG player about their lascannons ...

There is no other reliable long range tank options. Consistent fire power every turn is better then hoping to get in range.

And the tyrant isn't much better of a FMC, the only thing that prevented easy kills was biomancy, and that's gone, vendettas, stormtalons, heldrakes, stormravens, crimson hunters all laugh at them. Not to mention one failed grounded test takes them out of the picture. Seriously watch any of the battle reports, they die very quickly.

You need consistent options in Synapse, Anti-tank and scoring. Fail at one and its game over.

Stick to Devourers on the Tyrant and the Crone is exponentially better than the Harpy. I'd scrap the points to upgrade the Harpies to Crones. My concern though is a massive lack of firepower. You've got range do should be hurting the enemy turn 1 but I'm not sure if you're better off waiting a turn or 2 and taking Dakkafexes for real punch.

But otherwise looks very good and has 8 MCs (with a total 42 wounds) for your opponent to deal with.

Automatically Appended Next Post:

And the tyrant isn't much better of a FMC, the only thing that prevented easy kills was biomancy, and that's gone, vendettas, stormtalons, heldrakes, stormravens, crimson hunters all laugh at them

I'd expect better from you Ravenous D because this is flat out wrong. The Tyrant is massively better than the Crone or Harpy.

OK against Vendettas it makes little difference but Guard are getting rarer these days (people are bored with them by now when they get a new codex that might change but I expect a massive nerf bat attack on the Vendetta when that happens).

Helldrakes wound on a 3+ Vs Tyrant 2+ Vs Harpy/Crone with VS they really want to VS the Harpy or Crone but doing so to a Tyrant means you have to kill it or get 11 S6 hits on your rear armour of 10...

Storm talon shoots a Tyrant: 3 S7 shots = 2 hits 1.33 wounds 0.44 unsaved wounds. 4 S6 shots = 3.556 hits .593 rends 1.185 wounds total less than 1.5 unsaved wounds.

Vs Crone/Harpy: 3 S7 = 2 hits = 1.67 unsaved wounds. 4 S6 shots = 3.556 hits = 2.963 unsaved wounds total 4.6296 unsaved wounds and a very nearly dead FMC (over triple the damage caused.

Quad gun fires at HT assume Bs5 = 3.89 hits 0.86 unsaved wounds. Vs Harpy/Crone 3.24 unsaved wounds (nearly 4 times the damage).

AAtides, Missilesides are the same story. Crimson Hunters do literally no damage to either as no one ever takes them only really Skyrays and Vendettas treat both equally. Sky rays are 1 shot and you rarely see more than 2 in a list and as stated guard are less common these days.
