Sealing Agrellan Earth or crackle medium

I have a pot of Agrellan Earth which I am planning to use on my next army as a basing theme however for the few test minis I have painted, the crackle medium is, obviously, by it's very nature, quite flaky and looks like it will come off easily. Any suggestions as to the best way of sealing it somehow to make it slightly more durable? I was thinking a coat of thinned PVA glue but would the standard mini varnishing process be enough to protect it?

If the medium is pigmented through and through it would not matter if a bit of crackle flaked off.

PVA would of course be the tougher coating if you have any worries about it.

The nearest I come in experience is with my sand covered bases. I PVA the big ones that have a thicker coating. The smaller ones get spray varnished along with the rest of the finished model.

Sometimes a bit flakes off but as long as there is some sand underneath it does not notice.

Note: Remember that when using varnish for the bases you may not always want the same effect as the varnish on the model. You may want a mat varnish for the model but a glossy one for the base, just a reminder before you start varnishing!

I haven't tried PVA glue, does it leave a glossy or mat finish (sorry for hijack)?
