Now my question. I read in the PDF from Forgeworld, that the best way to basecoat is using Matte Car Primer. FW resin isn't very porous, which seems to be the problem with primer and foam.

you can use chaos black,it works,just be sure to wash the resin well beforehand,they use an oil based release agent that tends to stay on the model until it gets a good scrubbing.
I use a kitchen degreaser spray like formula 409 or simple green.

"Car primer" is also known as etching primer. The chemicals in the primer cause it to bond with the substrate, in this case the resin, the result is an ideal surface on which to paint that will not wear or easily chip off. To my knowledge the only "etching" primers that are made for miniatures and models are from Tamyia or Mr. Surfacer.

If you are spraying your primer on to the point that you are getting opaque coverage, you have sprayed to much.

You are better basecoating with 2-3 misting coats of normal paint. Spray from about a meter away rather than the 30cm it says on the can.
