				<title>Heldrakes worth it? How many do you take?</title>
				<description><![CDATA[ Heldrakes do a lot of work.  I take one.  Partly because I like having friends but also because I really don't need more.  One does two things:  it typically will tear aunit up and make it combat ineffective and that unit is invariably ne thats gotten into my backfield, which is usually not a unit you want around.  <br /> <br /> Second thing it does is absorbs a LOT of fire that would otherwise be directed at more critical targets.  Thats worth something, truly, if you're an assault army, as mine is.  Every single unit not firing at your Raptors is a good thing.  And the 5+ Daemon save really makes it nice.  It will usually take at least three units to kill it if not more.  A Crimson Hunter might be one of those that can down it very quickly.  But you can position your stuff so that its mandatory movement at least limits its shots on you.  Not always but sometimes.<br /> <br /> Vector Striking is unreliable but an added bonus.  ]]></description>

There really isn't much of a point because two of them will clear the board. 3rd one, keep the hades autocannon on it simply because a Heldrake with one is one of the few anti-flyer options in the codex. Vector strike at S7 if you can, and because how Heldrakes draw line of sight in 360 degrees from the base, you can shoot behind you, it's fairly good at blowing up other flyers.]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ Two helldrakes will make you hated in many non-competitive metas by anyone not playing <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(652);'>TEQ</span>. It is meta-breaking. It's not as overpowered all-around as the Wave Serpent, but it turns many games into a why-bother. So, if it's for funsies, I'd suggest only fielding one.<br /> <br /> It's not as bad as it used to be, now that Marines have a few answers in the new codex (still none cost-effective, but at least they can fight it), Tau can put one down, and Eldar can hide things in Serpents until they die. Of the remaining armies, some can endure the thing (Orks and Demons), but some others are still in a bad situation (<span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(27);'>DE</span>, <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(25);'>DA</span>).<br /> <br /> Don't forget to Vector Strike with it as you come on the board. I can't count how many stormtalons, <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(167);'>tac</span> squand halves, and Wave Serpents that thing has killed that way.]]></description>

A heldrake is frustrating because there's no real way to protect against the flamer template, but the user is not stopped from taking rhinos or otehr transports to protect his bodies.<br /> <br /> A heldrake bounces off a rhino. Even if it kills it, we're talking S6AP3 against AV11, he gets one dice and needs a six.<br /> <br /> The flamer also bounces off terminator armour and other flyers. ]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ It's not meant to, but the RIptide and Serpent kindof are.<br /> <br /> The 'Drake is <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(280);'>OP</span>, meta breaking, and some factions have no real answer for it, but many (most by now?) factions have a chance, if they prepare for it. There are some things it doesn't do well (killing <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(652);'>TEQs</span> and AV13+ vehicles).<br /> <br /> (As for Rhinos protecting marines, I've never had a Rhino survive it's vector strike. And Tau transports are very expensive. And Eldar transports are either broken or only hold 6 models.)]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ Neither do I chaos has little problem with opening up transports that are not Land Raiders . I normaly see 2-3 helldrakes being played and outside of stronghold fortifications I don't see a good way for an <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(69);'>IG</span> army to protect itself from them.]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ I doubt 2 heldrakes will make you hated.  three seems to be the annoyance point BECAUSE in theory...  You can kill three tanks a round and flaminate three units from inside a round...which is DEVASTATING if the enemy has lost its anti-air before it happens.<br /> <br /> Two isn't as bad.  Normal shooting can take one out.  The odds dont stack up as much against you with two and the possibility of Reserve failure and its effect on the Reserving Heldrakes can be more pronounced.  So in my opinion the three Drakes pushes ist over.<br /> <br /> I say this as a person who only chooses to own or use one.  but I would use 2 if i thought it would be better for MY army.  But it wouldn't be.  I use it as my antiair pretty much.]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ Yea well as I started this post I actually bought two as a bundle deal for only 100 dollars new in the box so I wanted to see how they did because I have never used them before and after I read a lot of posts I see that they work just as any big thing that is scary they will attract a lot of attention so if you want them to work you need a pair of them I just don't think three is worth it I mean two should do the job of killing marines I feel if I had three that would just be one sitting around hold his dragon nuts getting shot at]]></description>

Then I played against serpent spam, biker grav spam, and screamer star lists...<br /> <br /> I still only use one Heldrake, but since there is no honor amongst cheese a second one might be on the way.<br /> <br /> I see the only real difficult part of having more than one is transporting...  I Glued mine together before realizing it didn't fit in any cases, and only managed to snap off one of its wings and re-magnetized it.  So even with only one wing, it takes up most of the 4 inch battlefoam...<br /> <br /> So magnetize the wings! <br /> <br /> Most people in my gaming community bring 2 flyers (more if they are Necrons), so two is becoming almost a necessity.<br /> <br /> Most things work best in pairs.]]></description>

They aren't in the same league as helldrakes, serpents or screamer stars. My <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(10);'>BA</span> have beaten C:<span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(119);'>SM</span> grav bikers several times, and can only handle the helldrake because of expensive Stormravens.  The other things you listed give me no chance to win, or even play really. ]]></description>

But a ton of armies now have skyfire missiles in basic troops choices, such as scouts.  So there are answers if you want them.  Stunning the thing is good enough.]]></description>
