Questions about basing here

Just a couple questions. I'm using a kind of small white stone for my bases, I don't know what it is, but it's perfect white and leaves a sort of dust like talcum powder on the skin, I think climbers use it on their fingers, so what glue should I use, PVA or super glue?

Also, will the rocks still stick if they are glued onto painted bases because I painted my base Agrellan Earth before I got the idea to add rocks.

Thank You.

Dust will impede proper adhesion, regardless of what glue you use. I'd suggest washing the dust off and leaving them to dry before attempting to attach them. If they start crumbling again afterward, find another basing material. If the dust was just due to jostling around in storage (which can happen even to much harder stones), you're good to go.

As for the paint, the answer is yes... sort of. When gluing things onto a painted surface, it's a matter of the chain only being as strong as its weakest link. Doesn't matter if you use industrial strength epoxy, for example, as it would adhere not to the solid plastic base, but to the paint, which is much easier to pull off of plastic. Gluing directly to the base would be stronger, certainly, but if you aren't rough with your models, you'd likely be fine.

Okay thanks, I mentioned the dust not because it concerned me but just for identification. And I don't have to worry about being rough with my models as I am probably overly careful! But in future I think I will glue the rocks on first before basing, just to be sure

Sounds like climber' s chalk. If it is, I'd guess it would be very porous which would make superglue less effective and I'd be inclined to use pva.

If they're chalky, I would also recommend sealing over the top with some more watered PVA before painting, just to make it a little more durable

Two other questions, what is the closest colour to Agrellan earth in the GW range? Also, do you think a dusty desert base would go well with Citadel dead grass, if not what would you recommend?
