I was thinking either space wolves or space marines with salamander chapter tactics (for the famous dwarf craftsmenship angle with all the master crafted weaponry).

I'd probably recommend them as regular SMs, unless you go in heavy on Brokkrs, which'll definitely have a more SW feel to them. They really do seem like a not-goofy version of Squats, but waiting for that codex...man, you'd have a better chance of giving birth through your mouth. I am also thinking that sm's will sallie tactics would be the best way to go, really brings across the forge aspect of them.
