Things I learned from this last event.

o, in this last event I totally stepped away from my norm. Feeling that I needed to change it up and attempt something new I drafted and ran a whole new army concept.

I felt that the army had merit, and as such most issues I ran into was not really knowing my opponent load out and what it did.

Things I changed.

1- I ran a combined Tau-Wolf list at 1500 points. The one thing my lists always lacked was volume of fire, and stopping power. I instead choose to try and force my opponent into CQC where my list is always known to succeed. Now there in lies the problem, Most players will look at my list and know they need to keep me at a distance. Forcing my boys to keep walking into a hail of fire and most of the time never even getting to the target. With the Tau, I used a Solid Stationery firing line, the back bone of which was comprised of 24 Tau Fire Warriors with a Cadre Fireblade. In all but the last game these guy earned there keep.

Conclusion- Keep the fire Warriors.

2- The Tau made up my Allies, letting me use my wolves as my main Army. I chose to go cheap and used 3 Lone wolves in Terminator Armor, Hammers and Shields. Each one Cost 85 points, and to be honest they were the powers that allowed me to perform well in my first two games. They met there end in the third game by Grav Guns. Not knowing what those guns really did, I rushed the unit with a Lone Wolf and My Riptide. In one turn, I was shown why that was a bad idea. Other then that one mix up, These boys did more then pull there weight.

Conclusion- Run two next time, leave room for a Dreadnought and a drop pod. (More on this later)

3- No drop pods. This seemed like a great idea before I took the the field on Sunday. As anyone who has ever played me will know, I swear by the drop pod assault. It puts my Gray Hunters right in the perfect range for bolters and the charge. I get 2 melta guns for 5 points, and a Drop pod for 35. The total unit costs 190 points. I back them up with a Dred in a drop pod. Heavy Flamer and assault cannon. 150 points. I have always ran three pods, and found that the immediate pressure from these pods, allows my heavy hitters to get in close to support.

Conclusion - Don't EVER not take drop pods again. Bad Joe.

4- Too many point into the Tau. I am being honest, I just got the Tau Army, Fell in love with the Riptide and HAD to run it. Now that I got it out of my system, I will admit that running it was a bad idea. The original army called for me to use two of them, but being untested in my eyes, I chose to run one instead. Being honest, for 1500 points it did not pull its weight. This is also true for the Sky Ray. It is too specialized a unit for me to use in such a low cost game.

Conclusion - For a allied force, I am better off leaving the Riptide at home until I get to higher point cost games. Also, Trade the Sky Ray for a hammer head or save the points for a Broadside team with lots-O-Missles.

5- Mobility. Lets face it, I had NONE. My whole army was on foot, which at the time seemed like a great idea, until I realized that a smart player was not about to run forward and fight my Terminators toe to toe. Damn it.

Conclusion - I need mobility. Even if I can put my self in a position of superior fire power, my boys need to be able to get around the board.

6- I failed to play the mission. In the first game, I played the mission. Now to be honest, my opponent pushed the fight for the relic. in the end costing it for both of us, and giving it to her. My lack of Heavy's cost me that game. The second game worked well in my favor, but the third was a lost cause before the first shot was fired.

Conclusion- Make sure that I read the missions before the game and build the armies accordingly.

Over all Conclusion.

I felt that I really did do better then I normally do in this even. I find that the Tau make up for a lot of my short comings as a Wolf player. The static firing line, the volume of fire, Hell even the fact that I was forced to keep a unit close to defend them from CQC, all seemed to work well with how I think and Play. Even when I got curb stomped in the end, I was still having fun. I feel that I learned a lot form this event, and will take these new lessons to heart as I prep for the next one.

The new Army list is already under way. Going less for bright and shiny and more for over all killing power. I found my weaknesses and as such will play on covering for them.

Thank you for taking the time to read though this, and as always feel free to throw in some input. Here is the list in question.

Wolves. I am always looking for input and advice to become a better player.
