Where to start with Bretonnia?

I'm returning after about 4 years out of the game. I am selling my old OnG and using the funds to start a Bretonnian army. The problem is, I'm not sure where to start. I don't have the new BRB or the Bret army book. As such I'm not sure what to get and the like. My questions on the matter are then:

-What are the best sets to buy when starting Brets (I was considering the Battalion: £50 for £72 of models seems a steal)?
-Briefly, what are common tactics and strategies for Bretonnians?
-Are there any alternative model ranges for Bretonnian units from other companies? I've noticed there's not many of the units they can actually take sold by GW (trebuchets), and I'd like to add variety to the larger units like M@A. What scale are these miniatures, if there any at all?

1) get a BRB and Bret book !
2) Forget GW miniatures except if you can't avoid it
3) Perry Brothers, FireForge, Gripping Beast Plastic, KingMaker, Front Rank ... are the companies you want to look at for cheaper and often better miniatures for human armies

I agree with both of the above. As GW have slowly been removing all the sets from the older ranges that were in finecast ( HINT most of them), you kinda want to imagine it means they're going to get round to re-doing the book soon. But as has been said there are enough good options out there that You can have an awsome looking army anyway!
