Which paint is darker (Citadel paints)

I have 3 shades of red that I want to layer onto my Nid, lightest to darkest (Thats the best way to do it, right?), but dont know what shades of red these are. Tried looking them up but they all look the same to me.
I have, Khorne red, Wazdakka red, and Mechrite red (Seems to have been replaced with Mephison red) can some one help me order these lightest to darkest?

Which paint is darker (Citadel paints)

If they're paints that are in your possession, wouldn't just painting three strips of colour side by side be the way to go? Rather than asking the Internet or trying to use on screen samples which are by definition limited by what the display can show, and subject to the vagaries of your personal display settings?

Regardless, to try and help, Mechrite red was replaced by Mephiston, in that they are both base/foundation reds, but is a much browner, 'irony' red than Mephiston. Khorne red is, from memory, darker than Wazdakka, but tonally a lot less scarlet. The three shades are probably too different from each other in the type of reds they are to really work in a layering scheme.

You might be better off choosing one, adding a little brown to make a darker shade, and a little yellow or orange to make a lighter shade, but that way the colours will all share a common tonal base and will fit together better on the mini.

Automatically Appended Next Post:

kb305 wrote:

azreal13 wrote:
Erm..
Which paint is darker (Citadel paints)

It will turn pinker

Obviously how much is totally conditional to how much white you add, but regardless, the red will start to head towards pink in colour. Yellow or orange, being closer to red in the spectrum, will shift it into a lighter shade, but still preserve its "redness."

Ah, ok, as long as you're happy, that's all that matters. Working with a limited palettes a bitch.

Yellow would be a good investment though, as with red it gives you oranges and blue will give you greens, as well as being yellow of course!

What can work instead of mixing white in is to paint pure white highlights then put the red over top of it. khorne red is a very transparent color when thinned out properly. wazdakka is most likely the same.
