Regardless, to try and help, Mechrite red was replaced by Mephiston, in that they are both base/foundation reds, but is a much browner, 'irony' red than Mephiston. Khorne red is, from memory, darker than Wazdakka, but tonally a lot less scarlet. The three shades are probably too different from each other in the type of reds they are to really work in a layering scheme.

You might be better off choosing one, adding a little brown to make a darker shade, and a little yellow or orange to make a lighter shade, but that way the colours will all share a common tonal base and will fit together better on the mini.

you can layer it however you want OP. mix some orange into one of the reds if you want a brighter highlight. mix black into one of the reds if you want to use it for shadows.

But I get the impression he has the paint in his hands, which, unless he has a visual impairment, makes him an expert on them at this moment in time.

Red plus white = pink
Red plus black = brown

If that's what you're going for, cool, but you're much better lightening red with orange or yellow, and darkening it with a brown (or a dark blue if you want to go purple as a shade, which can also be used to shade red)
